Review: My dad and brother are long-haul truckers. I just got back from a trip with my dad, who's been trucking for over twenty years now. It's a hard life... I remember when I was three or four and I didn't know I had a father, as he was on the road so much.
Everyone needs to respect the people doing these hard jobs. (Especially the truckers. They get poor treatment from the four-wheelers and in some places there are no truck stops whatsoever. Sleeping on the ramp of an interstate = not fun.)

Review: The average mentioned (100K+) seems completely divorced from reality. 80K I could believe.

Review: Thats probably a tad high as an average, true, and likely because those of us who exist on the expensive coasts. However, after 20 years in the biz I'm on the threshold of management (team lead, not a manager in the orgchart sense yet) and making in the high 90s in the midwest.

Review: Maybe IT means IT Executive. All of the other IT jobs are going to India and China

Review: Relieved to see others questioning the average IT worker pay stated in this article. I wonder how they came to that figure. I think $65,000 or $70,000 is more like the average, if you figure from the Help Desk up to the IT Director. (I don't think CIOs should be included as "IT Workers", but maybe they did include then and that skewed the results.)

Review: There is a wide pay scale range for IT. For you that are still doing the MS crap, you will be near the bottom of the pay scale. Move up in the IT food chain you will easily see 80k+. SAP, Oracle, Java, these are some of the areas where it's at. The more specialized you are the more your worth. I'm pulling in about 170k as a contractor. I make more than my manager and VP.

Review: As an average, that seems high, but not unreasonable. I work for a fortune 500 as a sys admin/engineer, and am making in the mid 90's, I'm not even 30 yet. My older co-workers are ALL making over 100k. Our managers, architects, etc are making $130k+. Our on-site vendor support (Microsoft, IBM, etc) are all making $150k+.

Review: I work in IT in New England for a large company and make over 100k as a senior Sys admin. You need a lot of experience in a enterprise environment but you can make that if you work hard and are in the right area.
