Review: The promise of new technology in wireless transmission is virtually unlimited bandwidth by re-using frequencies directionally.
Photons carrying information do not interefere with each other in space, indeed, you can cross two flashlight beams, and they wil not affect each other in any measurable way. If twenty people with flashlights were to each send me a message by flashing their light on and off, i could receive each clearly even though the same frequency is being used by each.
What is true for light is also true for radio signals, what is new is that recievers and transmitters are now smarter and able to "see" several transmissions at the same time.
By forming beams (like the flashlights above) using multiple antennas, new radio standards like 802.11n can transmit and recieve several data streams simultaneously.
Once scarce spectrum can now be reused infinitely. Does that make it more or less valuable?
