Review: My wife has a Sony Vaio laptop. If the batteries in question are Sony, does Sony use them in their own equipment and, if so, which units are suspect? Thanks.

Review: As uncomfortable as it was for us to see these photos of our products and others in the blogosphere, Dell would have moved as quickly as possible to act responsibly on failure reports without such images. And we did. We also found the breadth and speed of the blogosphere helpful in disseminating customer information within minutes of the formal recall.

Review: What about the Dell laptops that were not included in the recall? Does anyone else have one that gets so hot you would not dare leave it on? I was really wishing it would be included, but it wasn't.

Review: Certainly the widespread exposure in the blogosphere turned up the pressure on Dell. Those photos of the laptop on fire are powerful. Apparently they (Dell) have recently formed an alliance with Sony, Apple and others to prevent future battery issues in the industry. I first saw this recommend by Richard Levick ( http://www.levick.com/resources/topics/articles/dell_battery_crisis.php - fourth bullet point), although now I wonder if they waited too long.

Review: The overheating is a result of the cells being linked together by foreign metal particles inside the battery. This creates a circuit that should not exist. Lithium Ion battery production is a very delicate process. Any foreign metal particles that get inside the battery can cause this issue.

Review: To date we still have to know how the compensation was paid for the lost data or how the battery heated up. All are very quiet on the heated battery issue. Why can't we know what exectly heated the battery. Is this the nano tech?
