Review: The reviewer needed to test drive the manual transmission. Before test driving and purchasing the car myself, I read on Edmunds that there was a difference between the manual and the automatic transmissions. After test driving the car it was obvious. I personally think that the reason is that the transmission is not tuned correctly in the automatic. I own the manual transmission, and I have to say that for a commuting car with parking issues (Manhattan) for a 6+foot driver, this is the car to buy. With the exception of the Prius it has the smartest interior on the market. Just make sure you learn how to drive stick, which carries a lovely side benefit--fewer people will want to borrow your car. :)

Review: Thane Peterson, the reviewer, back again. Zippo, thanks for the background on the Fit, which I left out of my review. As I understand it, the Fit is a version of the Jazz that has been modified a bit for the U.S. market. Still, you have to wonder what would have happened if Honda had tried to export a tiny, fuel efficient hatchback five or six years ago, when SUVs still reigned supreme in the U.S. I'm not aware of having called the Fit an '06 model, but if I did I was mistaken. It is indeed an '07.

Review: Thane, the Fit is a 2007, not 2006. The Fit (called the Jazz elsewhere) is produced in numerous countries around the globe and has been around since 2002. It is "fitting" to note that the Japanese always reserve the best for themselves. Honda carved out 50,000 units for export to the USA from a plant in Japan that is already at capacity. Given that the American market has been historically reluctant to embrace hatchbacks, Honda is committed to getting things absolutely right coming out of the gate. A good site to see more about all things "Fit" is http://www.fitfreaks.net

Review: Thane Peterson, the reviewer, here. Thanks for the informative comments. One thing, though. "Unimpressed" overstates the price of the Honda Fit. As the review says, the more expensive Sport version of the car costs $16,565, and the average price buyers are paying is $16,354. That's a long way from $20,000. Also, why allege bias against Detroit based on a single review, especially when I gave a glowing review to the Pontiac G6 convertible the week before? Obviously, you're free to disagree with me, but please give me credit for trying to be honest.

Review: I have had my Fit since the beginning of July and I love it! It is a lot of fun on curvy roads, has gobs of space, has comfortable seats, and is excellently put together. It isn't as fast as some cars, but in this age when we need to switch our thinking about how we use fuel, it is an excellent compromise.

Review: I agree with Unimpressed: All car reviewers love Hondas, no matter their problems or design flaws. My twenty year old Jetta has more room and gets about the same gas mileage. Yes, it doesn't have a fold down seat, but for $13,000 less, I'll over look that...

Review: I have ordered a FIT. Test drove one, & read countless blogs. U hv to be sure that the car has had the idle learn procedure or mpg will be bad, with Idle learn, you will get sticker milage. I found the car quick, quiet, and amply powered. The Honda extra warranty is tops-I have 0 ded, 6 yr and 120M for $1100. Raise the lights 15 degrees and do an idle learn. Have fun and save $

Review: Wow, 4 stars for a car that got 20-45% lower fuel economy than claimed (a Honda signature), a noisy cabin, feels faster than 0-60 in 9 seconds (walking is actually faster than that) and a sticker that reaches nearly $20K when you add the equipment necessary for it to move. If this was an American brand you would have ripped the vehicle up one side and down the other for those characteristics but since it's Honda, you call it a Hit.

Review: I bought a basic Fit with automatic 6-1-06 and have put 12,000 miles on it during a busy summer traveling across the US. It has been a wonderful car! I definitely made the right choice. It replaced my Toyota Previa Van. Crusing at 80 is no problem. With planning passing is not a problem. It makes the rated MPG of 33 city and 38 highway. The interior space is the real sales point. I can haul anything I want with very few exceptions. To bring a new full-sized clothes washer and dryer home it will take two trips, however, one for each. That is the trade off in losing my big van.
