You can manage the resume spam you'll get hiring online with an applicant tracking system (for instance, http://www.powerhires.com or http://www.catsone.com) which will save you lots of time and effort on the 'process' of hiring that you can use for more indepth interviews and other more important activities.

Review: Good article, but missing a very important point. One of the more powerful incentives to attract and retain good people that smaller companies can offer is innovative and individualised incentive/ bonus schemes, sweat equity etc that can make the whole compensation package highly attractive and yet doesn't have to be paid till specific performance criteria (growth, profits) are met. Larger copmpanies have simplified standardised bonus schemes so have little leeway in designing individualised plans.

Review: According to my experience small & big firms are only our perception. Every big firm was small once upon a time.
Even big firms employees are not recognized, Many HR professionals recognized that money is not a motivator that has long lasting effect.
Development Key to Employees retention / hiring ways to demonstrate that they value their employees.

Review: That's true. Moreover, smaller companies have to give more room for the employees who are really good and need more challenges. They will make a difference.
