Review: This article was interesting, but only focuses on the very beginnings of Star Wars Galaxies. What I think is a lot more telling is not the birth of SWG, but essentially the death of it. Where Kostner talks about player ownership and governance is actually the exact opposite of how his old company has acted. They decided to force major changes where the persistant universe was turned on its head down the throats of the playerbase despite huge protests by the playerbase. Players had to, in essense, start over in terms of their online personas, not once but twice. Smashing any sense of a persistant universe and the sense of ownership in the game. And look where it has gotten them. Tons of bad press, player revolts, and ending up as an "also-ran" in terms of MMO's. I hope there is a lesson learned here for them and for other would-be MMO's of the future.
