Review: My two-month old Mazda MX 5 1.8 version is good fun to drive, but the lack of traction control means a nasty slide is really easy. Could do with more leg space and lights in the booth and glove box!

Review: More, on my 2006 MX5. When Mazda redesigned this car for 2006, they made the car, longer, wider, taller, and lighter. They changed the hood and the trunk to aluminum, and made the car 400 pounds lighter. They increased the HP by 20%, from 140HP to 170HP. They made 17" alloy wheels, standard equipment, on the Grand Touring model. Try it. You will love it.

Review: I leased my 2006 MX5, 4/23/06, for two years. With a six speed automatic transmission, I am getting 25 mpg. I have received at least 15 compliments on the looks of this car. It is so much fun to drive, and the leg room is great. The convertible top goes up or down, in about 10-15 seconds. The difference in cost for premium gasoline, is about $100 a year--a small price to pay for such a fun car. This car is a real "head turner." The audio controls are on the steering wheel, enabling me to change from AM to FM to CD without taking my eyes away from the road. The convertible top does not need a tonneau cover. It just snaps into place behind the back of the seats. The stereo system has an automatic sound pilot that adjusts the volume, according to the speed of the car. As Mazda says, Zoom Zoom Zoom.

Review: Great to see Mazda make a great car better (although questionable combination of the stiffer sport suspension with the autobox). . . I have been racing first generation Miatas for five years in the Spec Miata class and Mazdaspeed Miata Cup and the cars are the amazingly reliable and transform readily into incredible track cars. Their low cost and durability has made them dominant in amateur endurance races where they readily beat much higher horsepower cars. Next year the new 2006 MX5 will be part of a fully televised entry-level professional series likely to be called the Mazdaspeed MX5 Cup, perhaps with a title corporate sponsor . . . likely to be among the most competitive and entertaining racing around.

Review: I bought a Miata in October 1989, and still have it. Nice article, but you convinced me that I should keep it. I get 30 mpg and the car is comfortable (I drove it 2000 miles on my last vacation).

Review: I'm the guy quoted in the article, and I'm 100% pleased with the new Miata. I bought the Grand Touring model. It handles as well as Mr. Peterson describes -- in both wet and dry conditions. Mine has the suspension package, which gives it a firm ride, but I don't find it uncomfortable -- and I appreciate the stability. The leather seats are bolstered well and are supportive. The six-speed manual tranny is a blast, with short throws and tight gates. The manual top is easy to operate from the driver's seat, and goes up and down quicker than a power top. I've been getting 27 mpg in mixed driving: backroads, highway, loafing, and winding it out. (Lots of winding it out!) My wife loves the car, too, and it's a great way to celebrate the joy of living.
