Review: Snicker, snicker! Seems like I saw this same story last year. Didn't work then. Won't work this time either. This entire line of thinking and reporting is pie in the sky and shameless self promotion.

Review: I think you are misunderstanding what they are doing. The proprietary pieces of the business package are licensed from the company that makes them. So, say you needed a specific solution for your company and there was a vendor that made a module for that solution, a license for that module would be tacked on to the base price of the business package.

Review: Astrisk is an amazingly stable and useful platform. I do engineering on a variety of IP-PBXes, and Asterisk is the best-- by far. And to reply to the other commenter, I'm not sure who he thinks is infringing on what, but open source is the wave of the future for software-- we'll be getting back to being paid for our personal expertise in implementation. There's nothing wrong with leveraging open source software to make money-- so long as one does not charge for open source software, nor make a commercially sellable product incorporating open source software (and thereby charging for it). If people sell an Asterisk server, they can charge for the machine, for the engineering time, for the installation, and whatnot. They just can't charge for the Asterisk software itself. The motivation for Digium to keep developing their Asterisk platform is that they sell exceptional interface cards which are fully compatible with the software.

Review: Aren't you infringing on other software patents by using or putting together their software to enable you to produce a new product?
