Review: Problem for EMC's core business is its 2000's million-dollar terrabyte servers are now going for tens of thousands--100x reduction. IT standardization makes customers not care about IBM, EMC, Sun Microsystems etc, so the gross margins plummet even faster! I don't think any amount of software, services, and security bolt-ons will help that! Seen in this light, I think it is an act of desperation in the face of commoditization! Interesting Symantec went up a bit.

Review: Hey, seems like EMC is on a roll. RSA, though, will be an untried acquisition. IBM has been weaving its Tivoli range into a variety of services and a lot of data storage gear is dragged along with this (as also with its RISC/UNIX servers-- EMC doesn't have that advantage). Seems EMC wants to make a similiar move. I don't think that this will immediately benefit EMC. They have only one way to go--acquire a more comprehensive suite or IBM will surely eat them for breakfast.
