Review: It's great to finally see articles about nature inspired design in BusinessWeek. The article accurately contradicts common misconception and states that biomimicry is "more than a copy." It is unfortunate that the article only accounts accomplishments by scientists and engineers. What's more, greater than half of nature inspired works highlighted in the article originate from military or DARPA projects. There is a certain irony in learning from life and applying it for war. Than again, I guess many things in our technological society derived from military/DARPA - Internet, etc. These scientific/military/engineering research projects are only in their infancy. Only through human centered design, can nature inspired projects become truly advanced technologies. BusinessWeek needs to focus on spotlighting projects that use new biologically inspired technologies for the promotion of human potential and advancement of humanity.

Review: I think this article is very scary since we already have problems with Big Brother watching us the Patriot Act, NSA with illegal wiretapping, monitoring every phone call, e-mail, and bank transfer. We have RFID chips emerging for which the goal is to be in every physical entity on earth and eventually in money, leaving no privacy for indidvuals. Creating bugs to spy on us will just further the attack on the American civil liberties. If we can't control the NSA now with illegal actitivites, how will we ever be able to when we won't even know when they are spying on us with flying insects. There's a saying if insects evolved into intelligient beings, we would not win against them.
