Review: Gee, how I wish Gates would stick around to add image shine to the company. Taking your marbles and running is not my game although at some point practicality overcomes all other logic. As a retired financial guy, I have struggled to see the beneficial effect of owning this stock for the past five years and must confess to being irrepressibly optimistic on the numbers. But numbers don't buy groceries. Buy back? No merit for a small shareholder. Special dividend? Quickly torn to shreds when reinvested. Where is the growth? Where is the value? Microsoft iPod? Doubtful. Vista more useful than XP for most of us? Doubly doubtful. Ad revenue? Possibly.

Review: As someone who got into Microsoft too late to profit from its many splits, I stiil like it long term for its basic strength and its occasional generous dividends. It's another IBM.

Review: Microsoft has lots of cash and will surely be around a long time, but they are a dinosaur, very much like IBM was when Bill Gates famously ripped them off and that company underwent massive downsizing as a result.
