Review: Ford and G.M. need to abondon the Republican Party. President Bush has not done a thing to combat high fuel costs as well as the high cost of health care. Ford and G.M have heavy pension burdens that is their problem their problem is not quality. I drive Ford vehicles and they are very dependable. Americans should support American companies, its the right thing to do.

Review: I've read all the comments written here. Not one reflects the real facts. I've read the most recent Consumers mag and found several claims that do not agree with published manufacturer's specifications. Since when does a Toyota get more than manufacturer's spec on mileage while Ford suddenly loses a third of it's mileage spec??? The import brands may assemble vehicles here but the engineering, tooling, and most parts are procured from Japan, Korea, and elsewhere in the far east. Assembly of vehicles is a minor part of producing a vehicle. So don't think that because a Toyota is assembled here that it is manufactured here. And those who claim that Detroit doesn't build quality haven't done their homework. Do you know that the Lincoln Town Car is rated by J.D.Powers as second only to Lexus and the difference is very small. J.D. also says that the Mercury line is on a par with Toyota. Do your homework people!!! Don't let others do your thinking for you.

Review: How can the Big Three compete when our government give millions in tax breaks and incentives to build their plants here? They start out with a new workforce and pay no retirements for 20/30 years ? If everyone bought a Ford or GM product, then instaed of working at Toyota or a foreign co. they would be working at a UAW plant with benefits !! Do you think that the millions given to the foreign companies come from the sky ??? It comes out of your and my paychecks as taxes !! We are paying them to be here so why not support an American company that has (for over 100 years ) and will invest in our future and our childrens future ?? Do you think that if Ford or GM go away they will keep their prices low ?? They are taking over and we are letting it happen.

Review: So I have two cars: A 1997 Taurus and a 1998 Camry. My extended family has a 1996 Olds Aurora, a 2003 Prius, a 1996 and a 2003 Camry, 2 1998 Corollas, a 2004 Subaru Outback and a 2005 Ford Explorer.
Of my cars, both are near 100k. One has cost $2000 in maintenance and repairs over the past two years. The other has cost $360. If you guessed the Taurus cost $2k, you're wrong.
That Taurus has been very faithful, and has had the lowest repair and maintenance bills of any of those vehicles by a good amount.
It may not be the most refined of them all, but it has been reliable and dirt cheap to run.

Review: To Tony and all the CR devotees:
Consumer Reports now recommends most Ford models. That means their reliability ratings are "average" at the least, which is NOT a full black, or even a half black.
Do you even understand the difference between a red circle and average? Average can be anything under 3% (see http://www.truedelta.com/pieces/newdots.php). The difference between full red and empty can be just a 2% failure rate. You need thousands of each model to compare rates that low with any statistical validity. CR averages well below that - just a few hundred. They also let owners decide what is considered to be a serious problem. That hardly constitutes a random unbiased sample. So you'll need even larger sample sizes to get statistical significance.
What does this mean? CR does not have the ability to accurately measure differences between what they report as average (empty circle) and "much better than average" (full red).

Review: Just read an article about Toyota and a recall of almost 500,000 vehicles for defective parts. It seems that their executives have gone out of their way to avoid anouncing recalls and are now in court over the results. see Yahoo Financial news toyota

Review: GM destroyed its Electric car, the EV1, and Detroit has been making the wrong product, stubbornly "fighting the trend" to Electric cars, stupidly subsidizing gas-guzzlers with discounts larger than the wage costs of building a car (25 hours of labor is all it takes, the wage costs they insist on byatching about are dwarfed by discounts of up to $10,000 designed to nudge people into buying 15 mpg gas-monster dino-cars).
Wagoner has no accountability because the six big hedge funds that control GM don't seem interested in reviving GM, they may be more interested in all the oil profits they get from their other holdings.

Review: In the world, we Americans are ridiculed by other nations because we show no loyalty to our own country. Asians in particular, as a people, are united and would pay more to buy a domestic (japanese) product rather than buy an import. We Americans are greedy and do not care if our purchasing decisions will have a future impact on our country or way of life. I agree that 10 years ago, US cars were horrible in quality. However, they are comparable to the japanese today. The japanese advantage is that they do ot pay for health care or pensions for their legacy workers back in Japan. The money saved goes into putting nicer plastic pieces in the interiors of their cars. The US automakers however need to pay pensions and healthcare for their workers so the governemnt (meaning you nad me) does not have to.

Review: I know both GM and Ford are on track to soon become profitable again in North America. Everyone has their downfalls. With high healthcare and gasoline prices people are starting to look for more dependent on fuel efficient vehicles. Yes, foriegn automakers are building and U.S automakers are closing to reduce their losses. But, in time you will see the foriegner auto companies pack up or fold when Ford and GM get on top of the game. Watch and see. Toyota may pass Ford for a short period but thats it. By the way, Iam not threatening anyone, iam promising this.
