Review: I am a victim of gender discrimination and currently in the conciliation process with EEOC. If anyone else has been through this nightmare, please comment about your experience. I feel like the helpless victim.

Review: Allow no room for discrimination. You simply can't afford to.
I dont see the connection between discrimination and affordability. The former falls within the sphere of Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the latter is probably more to do with profiteering and economics of business.
In small businesses, having a culture of equality can make the difference between success and failure.
This applies to all types of business; from small to medium to mammoth corporations.
Build a workplace with clear policies, where all are treated equally and only competence, hard work, and results are rewarded.
Deming would have been happy to read this!!

Review: I would love to get advice on how someone who has been discriminated against can best deal with this. I agree this is bad business, but what if your company does tolerate discrimination?

Review: Other expensive "bottom line" factors to consider when discussing discrimination and other hostile workplace issues are the skyrocketing costs of medical care for physical ailments related to workplace stress and depression, medication for these physical and mental illnesses, costs of attorney fees for litigation, the cost of huge settlements and/or jury awards, and the costs associated with lack of productivity. It's not enough anymore to just talk about and implement anti-discrimination policies (education), courts are now requiring proof in these cases that the employer show where they actually enforced their own policies against discrimination. Unfortunately, I speak from experience on this issue and I hope companies start caring, not even because it's the right and moral thing to do, but because it will affect their bottom line if they don't. Evidence of this is my cousin's jury award of 25 million dollars against UPS, last year, for retaliation.

Review: As a former high level manager at a major software company, I do recall having women who worked for me come up to me and thank me for treating them like the guys. Clearly their experience resonates with what the article says, otherwise why thank me for just treating them equally, the men never did?
