Review: Interesting fact is that they have spent $150 million. I wonder what that money has been used for. The content came to them free of charge from the parents. The technology deployment would not cost more than $5 million at the most to deploy all the backend applications for billing etc.
So the question I have is, what sort of marketing campaign was launched that cost that huge a cost and yet it never was widely visible.
Somehow it does not seem like the numbers add up for me.
I am trying to figure this out and can't seem to get a handle on it.
The content is already in digital format, adding a DRM scheme can't cost a large chunk.
So anyone like to see if they can break down where they spent $150 million.

Review: How about Apple buying Movielink? Since the rumor going around is a true video iPod is coming this fall. Apple has the power right now in the music download business, why not the movie download business?

Review: Movielink is a great site. If you have a fast connection it doesn't take long to get enough downloaded to start. They run specials often that are good. The software is Internet Explorer, which is the only reason I ever use IE. It uses Media Player, which sometimes has all sorts of trouble. I think it competes more with pay-per view movies (though the selection on super new isn't as good but a deeper older section). Would've made a good fit for Blockbuster since I don't think it competes as directly with online or store rentals. Blockbuster, up the bid and go back!

Review: Part of the downside to Movielink is needing to have a computer connected to your TV to watch the movies, which the vast majority of the world doesn't have yet. MS Media Center is one step in that direction. I think Movielink should make a deal with TiVo to make their movies available over TiVo boxes. They are computers, they are already connected to the TV, and a huge number of them are networked. I would buy a movie nearly every week over my TiVo!

Review: A committee of studios designed this camel, whereas they invested millions in the barn but set strict feeding rules that starve the animal. Cannibalizing the Wal-Marts of the world is not something a studio middle manager's career is made from. Hence this version of the animal will die.
I could have easily saved them $60 million on their $120 million investment. They should have paid me $60 million and I'd have advised them not to do it!

Review: I love downloading movies at Movielink. It's the best solution that simplifies my entertainment life. Can't believe it hasn't caught on and so sad that it may go away.

Review: Too costly, and worse than downloading, the race between the tortoise and the hare. Six hours to download a movie! And only 24 hours to watch it! You fall asleep, and never see the ending! Good idea, poor execution!
