I am a technician at an independent repair shop,and former Toyota Certified Expert tech. I found the problem to be in the CANbus system while diagnosing this issue on a 2006 Tacoma. CANbus began in use on the 2004 Pruis. It's main use is in the Drive-by-wire throttle system. There is not a mechanical cable to the throttle body. When a braking command is sent to the PCM/ECU the throttle motor is supposed to return to idle like a person in a previous comment mentioned. A person cannot 'power-brake'. The problem lies within a CANbus component or software. I wouldn't be surprised to see the tech at the dealership plug in a computer to the vehicle while replacing the floormats to reflash software during the campaign/recall.
The correct recall would probably bankrupt Toyota. I'm sure they know whats really going on if I can figure it or or at least put 2 and 2 together.
Anybody who has one of these vehicle's should try to step on the brakes and at the same time the gas pedal, on a CANbus Toyota drive-by-wire.

Review: My daughter was killed in a wreck in April, because of her floor mat going up under he gas and break petal where se couldn't stop. Would you send me a list of cars that they have recalled.Thank you John and Nancy Rookard

Review: I have one of these recalled vehicles. The settlement is sttill pending. They are telling me that they could pretty much care less about my sludge/ firing problem. My car is about to die in a few days. Apparently it lies undetectable till your car needs a new motor. I owe 8,000 on a car that is about to die! I own two toyota's if they do not make good on this they will lose a cunsumer and I will definatly execise my freedom of speach about this! By the way I just got a letter and the suit is for Feb. I am trying to collect all the proof I have for court in time!

Review: Toyota spends less on warranty costs in part because it continues to blame the owners for the problems in its vehicles. Take the sludge problem in 3.3 million Toyotas, not a defect says Toyota! Then why are significant numbers of properly maintainted Toyota clogging up with sludge? Toyota also doesn't send out all the owner letters it promises in a "voluntary recall." It stopped sending the letters to the sludge victims--many continue to be uninformed! The websites where Toyota owners have gathered for years have been sabotaged! Even my sludge petition has been affected! Just when the Toyota owners began connecting engine oil sludge with engine fires and emissions control issues, the Toyota owners are silenced! Intriguing?

Review: I agree the media is a big part of the problem for our (US) vehicle makers. There is a plant California that makes Toyota Camrys and Chevys, at the same plant yet the Toyota product is rated higher quality at a leading consumer magazine. They are the same cars why do they get different reviews? I hate my Hyundai but love my GM car

Review: Wow, way to be. I don't know what the deal is with all of this America-self-loathing crap that I see these days but it is really starting to get annoying. If the big 3 have a recall, all we hear about is gloom and doom...profit loss...and how much better life is in Toyota land. Toyota has a recall and we hear that they are so awesome for recalling, and they are still so much better than the big 3, and wow if that was the bog 3 it would have been 5 million vehicles instead of 1...lame. Next time try reporting the news, this pr piece is an insult to your readers.

Review: This is the most rediculous and most biased piece of garbage i have ever read. YOU are the reason GM and Ford loose sales to Toyota, and the reason they need to lay off thousands of American workers.

Review: At first this may seem like biased reporting, but I think not. Toyota must be doing something right in order to be gaining market share year after year and eating GM's lunch. People who think Toyota's products are perfect are naive, yes, but their products are a heck of a lot more "perfect" than anyone else's out there. Perhaps it's the way they do business, and how they handle recalls. Perhaps they go the extra mile with their customers and make them feel like real people at the dealerships, as opposed to domestic dealerships. Toyota and Honda are the only auto companies that can design and release new models faster than anyone around, and they are getting faster all the time. They are improving in all areas, all the time, and can execute more effectively than domestics. They will learn from their mistakes (kaizen) and apply them to future designs, unlike domestics which don't know what the right hand is doing from the left. The customer is king - who are they buying? Toyotas.

Review: A recall is a correction of a mistake. All automakers have them and this one is only significant because it shows that Toyota is not the perfect company they will have you believe. It is good that they are fixing the issue as they created it. Why does this author think Toyota should get an award for fixing something they screwed up? Yes, Toyota has opened several plants in North America which is nice. They are still not even close to what the big 2 (GM and Ford) and DCX produce or contribute to our society. Both GM and DCX have fantastic products in certain segments and are working hard to correct the ones that fall short in the others. They realize they screwed up in the past and are working hard to correct these mistakes. Toyota is not the perfect company and they will stumble as all others have before them. Sexual harassment, recalls, and boring styling - these are current issues Toyota is dealing with - sounds like an old page from the GM or Ford play book of the 1980's!

Review: I am a Toyota fan, but this article is a shameless PR piece disguised as reporting. The irony is that Toyota routinely scores poorly in surveys of customer service at the dealership, despite the quality of the vehicles. Forgetting the brands involved in the article, this is just exceptionally poor journalism.
