Review: Mr. Sim Wong Hoo's needs to keep his focus on fixing Creative's horrible financial performance rather than on suing Apple. Creative's poor marketing and mismanagement of inventory falls solely on Mr. Sim's tenure. Time to go Mr. Sim.

Review: Sim Hoo ridiculed the iPod Shuufle when it came out saying it was geenrations behind theirs and had fewer features like no screen and no FM radio. He never got the simplicity of the iPod, fewer features and fewer models. My friends in Singapore say Sim is considered so arrogant and unable to listen to anyone that he's sinking the company, trying to be right.

Review: Clicking through several menus to find a file be it a song or a PowerPoint sounds familiar to me for more than a decade. How can companies today claim rights about such features? BT had a patent for hypertext navigation, but it never fought any infringement. Isn't this all about hypertext navigation?

Review: Jamie Foster said, "Apple have done a great job with the iPod. It's simple to use..." Sunita say's, "Tsk tsk. How desperate. Can't offer better products so sue the company that does." The issue here is that the simplicity of use of an iPod is because of the legal infringement on the design that Creative Labs developed. Apple did not make a better product, they simply marketed a better product. It really helps when you have a name like Apple behind your MP3 player. I am not from Creative Labs, I am just a loyal and satisfied customer.

Review: Jon, your comments on the law and the pattent imply you have read the patent and determined it both valid and applicable. I think this is a matter for the courts and I am in complete disagrement with you. Creative's business practices suck. "If you can't beat the competition in the market try and shut them down in court." I only wish I could be a jurror on this case but I know I would get kicked off for bias. I hope Apple wins this case and collects damages from Creative for slander.

Review: Apple have done a great job with the iPod. It's simple to use and has been a master at marketing. Apple was the first to show that DAPs could be a mass market product. Creative is finished, as is Sony. Apple's real competition will come from Samsung. I expect Samsung to dominate DAPs by 2008. They have the resources, focus, and brand to crush Apple in tandem with Microsoft. Back in 1984 Apple stole the GUI from Xerox but showed how it could appeal to people. Microsoft then turned it into a huge business. I feel that history will repeat itself with MP3 players. BTW check out WMP 11--it is finally as good as iTunes.

Review: Here we go again with Mr. Sim Wong Hoo blowing hot air. First he "declares war on the iPod." Now that he has been soundly beaten in that war and is in full retreat, he has to settle for that good ol' American institution, the lawsuit. While Mr. Hoo focuses so much on Apple, the rest of the big competitors (Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, Sandisc, etc) have been chipping away at his market share. Maybe instead of making products, Creative should just become a patent troll.

Review: Can you imagine if way back, when some restaurant owner first had the brainwave of putting all of the items he sold in his restaurant on a piece of paper or board called a "menu" he tried to patent it. Yeah, surely his idea was the result of his pure genius and anyone having the same thought was naturally copying his idea. Eh, don't you guys see how stupid this whole discussion is? If I was a judge with any sense I would throw this out straight away and tell the people involved to get a life. The current generation in power in business and politics are sure screwing things up for me and my generation to sort out. Don't worry, though, we will and when we do you will go down in history as the shallowest humans ever to live. God I feel ill...

Review: A hierarchic menu system is not something Creative should be able to lay claim to--as it goes back as far as the 80s in terms of use. Apple can easily claim numerous instances of prior art and render this suit (and Creative's patent) null and void. Whether you like either company's products is completely unrelated to the matter at hand. Creative has been unable to beat their competitor in the free market and has now chosen to attempt to lititgate or extort its way to financial stability. Using patent law in cheap and sleazy tactics hurts all parties. It de-legitimizes genuine patent holders, clogs the court system and robs shareholders of equity and only serves to make lawyers lots of billable hours. Recently, Apple Corps lost its bid to extort over iTunes and I'm sure Creative will be on the losing side of this suit. Too bad Creative cannot live up to its namesake.
