Review: You see the market is dwindling down. For banks like Wachovia, Bank of America, and left behind Wells Fargo and WAMU you have to buy out the weaker one to gain market share. The trick is at what price? And how many employees are you going to layoff in the process I know from first hand experience. So stayed tuned community banks are soon to be a dinosaur because all the compliance issues as well. It's like the Target and Wal-Marts or in other words the Hatfields.

Review: Wachovia+World Savings= masterstroke by Wachovia management. This will give them the same financial flexibility that the option ARM gives the smart home buyer--as the mortgage industry continues to shrink Wachovia is now a major player to take up the slack. It would take decades to re-create the quality of mortgage franchise Golden West founders built.

Review: Wachovia is buying Golden West because of the mortgages. Wachovia is trying to grow its mortgage side and is expanding in the U.S. and overseas (Germany and France). Many have stated the Golden West, big in Option Adjustable Mortgage, in California. Mortgage IT and American Home Mortgage will be the next mortgage companies target.

Review: Another factor to drive consolidation is the big banks are still finding it less expensive to buy than build new branches. Not much talk about de novo expansion after much ballyhoo last year. Deposits and customers was and still is the name of the game.
