Review: Skype charges an average 10 cents per SMS 160 character as I read it in this article.
Yahoo Messenger v7.5 charges zero for some years now.
I use this to call the Philippines from Canada.
Networks Smart and Globe are Yahoo's partners there.
Skype is the only free service(as of now, before the ads come), but that is only for lonesome folks who have nothing else to do but search for others in the world to talk to. Skype is not for countries that have no electricity, landline, or PC to connect online to.

Review: Both the article and the comments, so far, depend on the US market point of view. Going into the kitchen seems to be the most important issue. It's not. Many more people who can use Skype (on a cell phone, on a laptop) do not even have a kitchen. Skype can target 2 billion poor people and 297 million people (in the US) at the same time, but guess where the mass market is? Having a cell phone in Africa is having a small business and conferencing has the feature of pricing agro markets. Though the USA is important, the world does not end there and PC and cell markets growth isn't to be found anymore in America. I admit that Skype can grow in the US, but I think we have to
see that it can grow more further afield.

Review: For those who don't know, Skpe does offer the abilty to use a cordless and move into the kitchen. I recently bought a box from VoSKY that connects to my conventional cordless phone. It enables me to make frequent Skype calls to my daughter in Japan - free of charge - without being tied to my computer.

Review: So the hype continues. Unless Skype figures a way to move into the kitchen and replace that cordless and starts attacking those features instead of focusing on sweating the small stuff, it'll remain one of the many.
