Review: IT people have to stop EDP'ing everything. Expectations have moved on and writing a better (bigger?) processes is not the solution. Instead users must have access to dynamically assembled data that is relevant to their current interaction requirements. Thus the technology is aligned to the user instead of the user having to engage another user who has aligned (specialized) their thinking to the data--the library model. This requires a fundamental shift in the application of technology and the management of data resources way beyond metadata and abstracting disk management. It is now possible to achieve this on an organizational scale, which is the foundations of global usage. Whilst the solution exists, those hoping for a magic appliance/application still have some time to wait as these industries are still process (EDP) based.

Review: True, Paul. But think about the limits of the human brain to focus on and extract meaning from even well-sorted and organized data. Malcolm Gladwell's Tipping Point is about the limits of our highly-evolved brains to grasp the welter of information-based relationships clamoring to gain our attention. Phil Wescott
