Review: To aunt lu: How can they stop your pension? You are collecting it so it's been funded. Lucent is not going out of business. Your pension is insured by a government agency so I wouldn't worry.

Review: Another self interested comment by the AT&T/Lucent retirees. This merger is about Lucent's survival and growth, not whining from retirees about their benefits. Lucent made some bad choices in rationalizing their hardware product lines, leading to poor revenue growth in 2006/07. But Lucent Services business is doing well under John Meyer's guidance. The Services unit is better positioned strategically and growth-wise than Alcatel's. But it's the opposite case for hardware, where Lucent will really benefit from some strong Alcatel products. Geographically, the merger is a home run, but there will be major cuts in New Jersey where Lucent has 6,000 HQ bureaucrats shuffling papers, pretending they are making a contribution.

Review: I'm very concerned about the Lucent/Alcatel buyout or merger as I receive my retirement pension from Lucent. I'm hoping that this won't cause me to lose my pension from Lucent now that the new company might consider stopping paying pensions to Lucent retirees. Please tell me there's no way this can happen.

Review: Commonwealth Telephone (CTCO) is one of the best-managed telephone companies in the industry. Just recently the board adopted a policy that the directors should own a certain amount of company shares to better align themselves with their shareholders, which means the shareholders' best interests are their best interests. It is my opinion that if more companies did this we would have less stock scandals and better- run companies.
