Review: Too bad they couldn't make a "deadline"--it isn't that much longer to wait. Smart people who want a new system with Windows for Christmas will wait for Vista if they want to. They are not children anymore who have to have instant gratification! Or they will choose an OS upgrade option if it is available. Microsoft spent millions of dollars and hours completely revamping XP in response to "security threats" posed over the last few years. That is largely the reason for the delay in the release of Vista. But what is a security threat? It is totally nonexistent in the absence of hateful no-gooders out there who can't find anything better to do than try to hack the system. Microsoft is only vulnerable to such attacks because of individuals who are jealous of its success. Face i, it is not Microsoft's problem. All other OSs would be totally wiped out in the face of such vicious attacks. It is a very sad day to see aggression against so positive and hard working a company.

Review: The more complicated something gets, the more bugs it will potentially have. I think Microsoft is finding this out the hard way.

Review: Every three or four years, Microsoft does this. "We have product X in development and the shipping deadline will have to wait as we work on security fixes and stability issues."
Minutes after said announcements, the Wall Street response is panic and punishment.
Wouldn't it be novel if Microsoft gets to release a product that it is actually worth buying rather than a rush job that will cause consumers and businesses to avoid a buggy operating system? Isn't the greatest value derived from a quality product that is in demand?
Analysts that incessantly whine and cry, "Microsoft missed their deadline! Our forecasts are shot, now!" should be fired for such inane short-term thinking.
Keep this in mind: I am no friend of Microsoft. I'm happy with my Linux desktop. But I am a friend of common sense. Love Microsoft or hate Microsoft, but at least be practical and intelligent about evaluating their performance.

Review: Enough of the Mac vs Microsoft. This is great news for Sony with their PS3 coming in November. Now, without having to choose between a major OS upgrade or a new gaming console, Sony's sales of PS3's will have a bit of a safety net--not that they need one.

Review: Microsoft is a disappointment. The Windows OS is a disgrace. Vista will only continue the trend. Go Mac or Go home.

Review: Service Packs do *not* equal the yearly .x updates to OS X. Anyone who uses both platforms would know this.

Review: Remember MS is a hardware manufacturer now. Pushing back Vista on the consumer side but not the Software Assurance business side accomplishes what they wanted: Xbox 360 is the hot ticket
Delaying Vista ensures that their core customers will have enough money to buy X360. A lot of their core customers came from PC gaming, and have been converting to the ps2/xbox. This development is only good news for MS stockholders. OEMs should be furious. They're in competition with 360 and ps3 on the consumer side, and they're losing big time. They don't realize how important this was - this season everyone will spend computer money on PS3/360 and a BIG HD TV, and then their consumer business will really decline.
The wi-fi boomlet is over. They needed Vista THIS HOLIDAY SEASON to survive. But that won't happen, now.

Review: Bull! Apple released OS X prior to XP and has had four updates since. XP is at SP2. SP1 was bug fixes. 10.1 was similar: bug fixes and speed improvements. 10.2 brought more speed increases and a bevy of minor but useful features (Chat, integrated smb networking). 10.3 brought major new features like Expose, Video&Audio Chat, Fast User switching (regardless unlike XP). SP2 brought out bug fixes and additional much needed security features. 10.4 brought instant searching across all applications, smart folders, built-in RSS reader, easy app/OS automation that novices could use, and more speed increases. ALL on crunchy Unix goodness for those who want it (invisible otherwise).

Review: Re: Apples to Microsoft
A service pack is a collection of bug fixes and slapped-together security patches to plug gaping security holes in the OS, not a new OS.
Apple's schedule of new OSs are actually that -- new OS versions, with new features -- what Windows Vista is supposed to be. They do it about once per year, whereas people have been waiting for Vista for five years now.
BTW, Apple releases free OS patches as needed too. These are released considerably less often than Microsoft's patches, but it's not Apple's fault that Windows is so full of holes it needs updating on a weekly basis.
