Review: MTBE should not have been allowed for usage in the 1st place. And now blaming the manufacturing industries is not the right thing to be done. The clean-up has to be done by the government. If the company takes the clean-up expense, then they will not be left with much of monetary fund to carry on research to find an alternative.
I would request you to follow this link to get a good collection on information on the MTBE LITIGATION www.mtbelitigationinfo.com

Review: People don't understand the limits on biofuel. Right now the US spends about 30% of the entire crop of corn to produce fuel. Spend 100% of the crop and you still cannot run the economy and cars on biofuel. It will still require imports of fuel from the Middle East. The only solution is hydrogen/nuclear. We have the technology, we could do it tomorrow. But fear and stupidity from most people prevent this from happening. Chernobyl was the worst possible nuclear disaster and only about 300 people can be proven to have died directly from the accident (explosion, plus thyroid cancers). Nuclear paranoia might cause us more harm that any nuclear accident. The US doesn't prevent proliferation from Iran out of fear that it will close the oil valve and cripple the economy. Bush and Co. don't much care since they are big oil friends. The hike in oil prices helped them to get ooohh, say 10 billion in the last quarter. Have that as food for thought.

Review: Why are our gas prices higher here now then when crude was $70 plus a barrel? We are within five miles of a refinery and our gas price is higher than cities further away.

Review: It is a big problem in the US. It may be said that in Brazil we get our Ethanol from sugar-cane--it is not totally true though. Most of our cars are moved by gasoline and since 2003 most of cars are being made with Flex fuel technology, so that you can use alcohol (from sugar-cane) or gasoline. However, nowadays the alcohol price is really high. It is cheaper than gasoline but it is not as good as gasoline. You can drive 20% less than gasoline with alcohol, then the alcohol price is not good because there the sugar cane productions cannot supply the demand of cars. I guess the fuel price will be the problem of the century and, off course, US will have to look for a "new fuel."

Review: Apparantly you do not know the cost of producing ethanol in the U.S. The cost of producing ethanol from corn is much higher than in South America.
Brazil uses sugar cane which is estimated to be about 4 times more efficient than ethanol produced by corn. 40% of the world's ethanol came from here. The cost overall for producing this is half the cost of producing corn.
I am unsure about the soy ethanol and sunflower ethanol used in Argentina, but it is supposedly more efficient than corn by at least 2 times.
I do not like the various things they make out of corn although they make products much cheaper as in foods, plastics, and energy sources, they are less efficient and often do not work as well.
So if we do focus on creating ethanol in the U.S. I would be recommended increasing importing sugar or ethanol because the U.S. already imports 20% of the ethanol produced in Brazil.
The U.S. currently produces about 30% of the worlds ethanol using mainly corn.

Review: So why are we not looking at getting our country more involved with ethanol production and not so dependant on the Middle Eastern Oil. If we can produce 85% of our gasoline for the new cars on the market with corn, would this not drive down the price of gas and strengthen our economy in the process.
