Review: According to a Chicago Tribune article, Corbis has been found in the Illinois courts to have violated the late James Brown's rights-of-publicity by selling his pictures for commercial uses without the Brown Estate's consent. And then Corbis tried to change the law in Illinois by introducing legislation to legalize what Corbis is doing!According to the Tribune, the Black Caucus in the state legislature became outraged at Corbis' practices and killed the bill at the last moment. Nice tactics - does Bill Gates know about this?

Review: Corbis actually threatened with legal actions over an Aproil Fools joke where another stock photography site claimed they had bough Corbis for 625mill USD. I think that's pretty amusing...check out the rest of the story here: http://www.crestock.com/news/corbis-threatens-with-legal-actions-over-april-fools-joke-176.aspx

Review: I purchased rights from Corbis for a TV program I used. There are many more uses for photographs than is being given credit for in this article. Pretty much every TV show you see with pictures is buying from Corbis.

Review: If people want pictures for pennies they will find your vacation photos and use them. If there are non-pro's out there with their best buy digi cameras taking pictures good for them. There is a difference between a hobby photog and a pro and it's called talent! Post them on flikr and other community based portals. Let Istock exploit you and your images. You will only lose in the end. Cool you made $6 off your image. You know that picture of clouds, some art director in San Francisco took it off your page and resized it in Photoshop and voila, they have your photo floating around the world in national ads. If you gave a crap you could have made $15,000 off that pic and bought a real pro digi camera!

Review: Bah. Organizations that pay the exorbitant rates that Corbis and Getty charge are dinosaurs and marks. Most stock imagery can be taken by an average photographer using decent equipment. You'll find these images - 99%of which are perfectly fine for communication pieces - posted to the burgeoning groups of sites that offer them for pennies (with a better cut going to the photographer to boot). The new Internet is going to erode the outrageous fees Corbis and its ilk demand and none too soon.

Review: Exploitation of an image has some concerns for me. But this is an interesting adventure for the savvy.

Review: As one who has contributed images to Corbis via an external agency affiliation, I must say that Mr. Gates is incorrect regarding the synergy between the various departments within Corbis. Practice has shown these departments to be so territorial as to not submit sports ambiance photos for travel, etc. I would love to have a dialogue with him to explain the situation and point him to the CEOs of Corbis' affiliated agencies who could explain the real situation that exists, rather than than what he has been told by the chaise musical (sic) group of Corbis directors.
