Review: The senator's name is Bob Kerrey, not Bob Kerry.

Review: I realize this post is coming in late to the general discussion, but I'm in the unique situation of someone that's thinking about applying to The New School. I haven't decided because I'm still in research mode. I want my future university to experiment with different and radical ideas. This is the first time I've noticed the logo and I'm not impressed with it. To me, graffiti is NOT something that's done in broad daylight. It's done when no one is looking and only in rare situations adds an alternative message. To be a radical thinker these days you have to defend what you believe. When people are spraying graffiti and a cop shows up, what's the first thing they do? Run! A shield, a crest to me has a lot more meaning because it represents foundation and taking a stand in what you believe. Also, graffiti is clichéd. How many advertisements have some form of it? The saturation only cheapens the brand as opposed to add to its uniqueness.

Review: Maybe it's nice to take a look at the Tate case by Wolff Olins, http://www.wolff-olins.com/tate.htm so you can see it's way more than just a random graphic, really interesting stuff about branding (cultural) institutions

Review: How could you people defend such a corny logo? As a young person, are you saying I have to choose between skull&bones elitism and stifling lifestyle branding? Each time I think about the new identity I shudder and feel ill...

Review: The new logo is no good... its not innovative, its boring, and it is a design ive seen numerous times before. P.S. Just in case y'all didnt know those letters have nothing to do with graffiti.

Review: Alan Siegel's firm has revealed its own desire for relevancy in the new logotype. It desperately needs a new head of steam. It's a shame they're going for a Wolff Olins 2 approach, rather than finding their own voice.

Review: As New School graduates, Rob Giampietro and Kevin Smith, ought to learn a little more about their institution's history. The New School's founders were actively rebelling against traditional universities -- Columbia in particular. That's why they called their school "The New School" And why shields and heraldry signal exactly the opposite of what they clearly had in mind. I also like to think designers are keen observers of the symbols they discuss. Not Giampietro and Smith. The old New School emblem, gentlemen, had six little squares, not eight.

Review: I don't think this new mark is about heralds and staid traditions. It's organic and real. It's more about inspiring students to make their own mark in the world, not "fall-in" behind a shield or an age-old philosophy.
