Review: Are there any trials for HCV genotype (4) in Egypt or in the Middle East, esp. with the telaprevir (VX-950), which I think is very promising.

Review: I am a GP in Sydney Australia, my sister has chronic HEp C , genotype 1. She is 50 years old , lives on a farm in Northern NSW. She does not drink or use drugs. Recently she had a major flare in her disease and she has stage 3 fibrosis with a very large viral load. She responded previously to Interferon ( about 15 years ago, but did not sustain the response when she ceased , after a year. She is very keen to try or be part of a trial involving Telaprevir. She found her last interferon treatment very hard in terms of side effects, but she also knows that he next stage of her illness is cirrhosis. I am a GP and would be very able to monitor and feed back her blood tests and any side effects. Does anyone know of a way we can participate, even at long distance.

Review: I'm participating in a Prove 2 trial at the Royal Free Hospital in London, UK, and about to finish 12 weeks of treatment with VX950 and Pegasys. This is clearly the arm of the trial that Vertex hopes will be successful as the new standard of care treatment for Hep C. We will be "unblinded" on the 29th of March and I'll find out whether it's worked or not. All my instincts tell me it has and that this virus that has vexed my liver for upwards of 30 years is no more. I no longer need to feel like a latter-day economy version of Prometheus. Wish me luck on March 29th. Best wishes, Nick M.
