Review: Symantec is a great consumer company and should succeed with their strength in the consumer area.

Review: Last year I had the worst software experience I've had since I started in computers in the 1960s. I decided to get the NIS 2005 Antispyware Upgrade for a mere $10. Once I installed it, I could no longer install other software such as the Adobe Video Collection, Macromedia Studio 8, Windows updates, or even Norton?' own Ghost. I did hours of troubleshooting on two computers. Nobody at Symantec customer service could grasp the issue that when NIS 2005 Antispyware was installed, I couldn't install anything else but when it was uninstalled I could. Fortunately for me, NIS 2006 came out. I installed it and now my other installs work perfectly. Unfortunately, I had to waste more than 40 hours on the problem plus pay for the software that caused the problem. Not very consumer friendly!

Review: Hah! Does Microsoft really think I'd look to them to provide security. I'm glad that someone is willing to take them head on.

Review: After years of raising prices, cutting features (including: turning off virus protection in the 2005 version - after your subscription lapses), Symantec wants to play nice ... Too little - too late. This is yet another company that got distracted, playing the 'huge acquisition' game - and now the competition is ahead and will stay ahead. Dropping prices may seduce some of the consumer base, but those of us that "have been taken in" by Symantec's quest for success (with our money) have had enough. Compete away - Symantec! Get competitive! Maybe, some of us will buy the "finally more comprehensive" malware protection (that you should have been offering 2 years ago) - then again, we can always drop you, when you start raising prices.
