Review: My home was built in 1992 and we purchased it in 1996. I looked at several homes in my neighborhood that had sold recently and believe the size and description of each was accurate. If there has been an update, it probably won't show, unless there was a building permit obtained. Looking at the sales values and sale price per square foot equated to the approximate numbers listed in our neighborhood rag. I think it's a good start to enable a homeowner or buyer to evaluate a neighborhood.

Review: I'm all for sites like this. The more info the merrier. But I cannot stand I.T. folks who sell the sizzle before the steak and roll out these sites before they're ready. My 2+ year old neighborhood doesn't even show on the satellite maps. And Zillow's claim that the value will fall within "10% of the actual home-sale price 62% of the time" is supposed to mean, what? That's akin to claiming a double was almost a homerun. Regardless, ultimate market value is determined by what a non-urgent buyer is willing to pony up and local knowledge also impacts the offer. I wouldn't rely on history for what the free market will ultimately determine. But Zillow is a welcome resource if they can get the bugs corrected, although it reflects poorly that they raised the curtain before they were ready.

Review: Amen to that realtor's comment. If Toyota and others represented their $30,000 products the way the real estate industry still somehow manages to sell their $200,000 products, they would be out of business!

Review: I own two properties amd looked them up on Zillow. Neither one is described correctly: wrong number of bedrooms, baths, etc. How reliable can Zillow be with errors like this?

Review: Zillow.com is junk. The site is bizarre and they can't find any of the 3 addresses I entered, from the San Francisco Bay Area. Not ready for prime time yet.

Review: Most Real estate agents are crooks. I just bought a house and had two such agents who defrauded me several thousand dollars. I went to small claims court but I think the court is a joke. The only thing I will say is that I will never use another agent in my life.

Review: Zillow.com is a great development for home buyers and sellers alike. It is time for the real estate industry to get its collective head out of the sand and realize that the days of 6% commissions are over. As a broker, it is maddening to deal with inept salespeople on a daily basis. I see the internet forcing the evolution of the real estate industry to the point that we, as brokers and agents, need to become lean and highly productive in order to survive. Yes, real estate is still a personable business but far less so than it was just a couple of years ago. In other words, there will always be a need for real estate brokers and agents but those agents that sit in coffee klatches in the office are going to have to start pounding the pavement one way or another or face extinction. Consumers have been overcharged with wasteful commissions for far too long and, in my days as an agent forced to write 6% listings, change has not come a moment too soon. Kudos to all who are evolving.
