Review: Interestingly, the "I-Word" for innovation is all over the place for Indian IT-vendors as they see that scaling purely based on labor arbitrage is getting increasingly difficult. Nilekan's arch rival, Wipro's CEO Azim Premji gave a great account on what innovation means for him on the Nasscom India leadership even in Feb in Bombay. Here the overall article: http://www.reneseifert.com/2006/02/nasscom_2006_the_iword_or_inno.html

Review: Globalization means borderless of countries and shifts some jobs from one corner of the world to another. Cost cutting definitely is one of the major reasons why every entrepreneur needs outsourcing as much as possible to keep better position in marketplace. In past, only non-skillful jobs were moved out from own countries to somewhere else having cheaper labors like China and India. Nowadays, more and more jobs are being outsourced even some of them need special requirements on particular workforce. China and India actually are picking up the skills to develop themselves and will keep in pace with frontiers of market in near future.

Review: According to my studies of Indian organisations and their ability to innovate, there is a high level of change needed to make a sustained innovation culture. But the motivation the desire is there too, suggesting that no one can stop them from innovation. The trick and skill is in maintaining that culture of innovation. Review: Innovation in the service industry may be tough but it's important and IT companies like Infosys should think about this now or else it will be too late to realize this.

Review: Nandan rightly says that we are better in maximizing things but services are different. But to achieve that, we will have to move from solution implementors to solution providers. We have to move into high end consulting. Infosys Consulting came big into the picture but there has been no single big achievement from them even if the board consists of big guns like Stephen Pratt. We need to go into high end work very quickly or we will be losing precious time.

Review: To answer your question: Innovation can not, at this time, be outsourced. Which makes Microsoft's recent investments in China all the more ludicrous. The reasons are simple. The best and the brightest still live in the US, though many are originally from the EU, India, and China. In 20 years, things may change, but our best shot at maintaining our last remaining "edge" over the rest of the world is to shore up declining investments in science and engineering education and to liberalize visas, since many native sons choose the easy road to riches, the MBA.
