Review: Since 1950, teaching and training of creative thinking has been researched. Research continues to show that all people are born with the capacity to be far more creative yet by the 4th grade most children have apparently lost most of their abilities and are seldom rewarded for being creative. For 52 years the CEF through its annual Creative Problem Solving Institute has been teaching hundreds of people from around the world the Osborn - Parnes Creative Problem Solving Process. Since the late 1960s Edward de Bono has been writing books about the teaching of creative thinking. My own library contains over 400 separate books on teaching creative thinking.
Yet only now in Switzerland do business people realize that creativity is important.
Even BusinessWeek ran a front page story about the teaching of creative thinking in September 1985. PBS-TV ran several television series about teaching of creative thinking in the early 1980s.

Review: Come on, you need to study up folks! Ever read " Leading Change" and the competitive advantage it provides? Get yourself some professionals to help in creative problem solving, etc. Innovation is a skill and can be learned.

Review: Only way to compete in the global economy is through innovation! Bigger organizations like GE have realized and started to invest in the direction. The sad part is that most companies include innovation in the value statement but hardly understand the full meaning of that. They limit innovation to R&D and engineering talent! However, in reality it is much more than that.

Review: "Hiring new talent" isn't the only way to get innovation. You might try unburdening some of your current employees so they can take the lead, rather than remain pigeonholed. You will be surprised what experienced people can develop if you only give them a chance.

Review: Interesting how the subject of innovation and creativity has expanded into global forums like this one. Clearly we are nearing a trascendental moment for businesses and society, where the ability to implement and leverage creativity and innovation will be critical to our continued growth and progress, more so than in any other time in history. I only wonder how profoundly do the CEOs of today really "get it" as stated in this article. Will they simply have a brief and passing moment of enlightment in these workshops, and go back to their "usual ways" when they return home? Will the near-sighted focus of our financial markets and corporations prevail? Or will they embrace and promote the change, value its impact on their companies (and themselves), and provide the structures, resources, and tools that will make this a part of their company's culture and DNA? And, will they do so before it is too late?? I hope they will.

Review: As a business coach working with clients toward creative solutions, I have noticed two types of creativity. There are the boundary busters who expand and redefine the problem area and the solution seekers who bring creative thinking to the boundary busters' new paradigm. Both thinking styles are rarely found in one mind and both styles are rare in business, hence the success of boundary busters like Steve Jobs. If there were more boundary busters inside organizations the briefing of external creatives would be so much more effective.

Review: It is good that the business men have realized that their future lies in innovation. It is impossible to thrive on borrowed ideas and doing the same thing repeatedly.
