Review: Vodafone's strategy to purchase Turkish mobile company (Telsim) can help Vodafone to increase its earnings in the long run, although the purchased company is underinvested in terms of technology. However, the Turkish market is one of the promising markets--among emerging markets--considering its young population and can help Vodafone to boost its earnings comparatively.

Review: Sarin is probably doing the prudent thing by lapping up stakes in developing markets, since these markets are largely untapped and show huge potential. Investment in Bharti (India) is a very good attempt to gain a foothold in a country that has a population of over a billion and a teledensity of merely 9%.

Review: I believe that Vodafone will be successful in the Turkish market, which is an extremely-promising market for international companies whose existing markets have already been saturated. Although Turkcell, the sector leader, has a dominant influence on the sector Vodafone can benefit from its worldwide experience to gain more market share. I believe that the belief that Vodafone's bid is too much for Telsim is wrong because in such a promising market Vodafone will make an incredible amount of profit in the long run.

Review: Winning Telsim in Turkey will turn into a success story. The market is migrating in the right direction for advanced services, where Vodafone will play a major role. Margins and cash flow will improve in the mid- to long term. Resources gained in the Turkish market can also be deployed in other operations, since extremely intelligent experts are available in the market.

Review: Vodafone missed an opportunity to enter Pakistan, which is the fastest growing mobile market in the world, proportion wise. A million new cellular customers are added each month. The six mobile operators in Pakistan are reaping the benefits. Telenor and Orascom made the right decision.

Review: Sarin is taking advantage of Vodafone's cash rich position in acquiring growth but he hasn't shown too much creativity in getting this far. What's happended to One Vodafone, which is supposed to integrate all the majority owned Opcos? And why aren't they considering expanding their range of services to eat someone else's lunch? That takes real business value-add--not just cash--to maximize returns.
