Review: The web is great for exposure,
yet difficult for sales. My web site was helpful when I owned a brick and mortar gallery. ARTZworks.com

Review: I upload create accounts for my clients on a 3rd party site, www.CanvasPress.com, and allow my clients to pay for the work on the CP site. It prevents me from worrying about $ so much and lets me focus on my work. It only takes 10 seconds to upload my images digitally.

Review: Great article. I don't believe that it is difficult for artists to sell online though. I think that comes from a limiting belief that many artists have about themselves. For help with this kind of thing I have set up the following site: http://sellmoreartonline.wordpress.com/

Review: As a self representing artist I sell my work on eBay, RedBubble, and lately saatchi.
There really is an art to this business of marketing, to mix my metaphors. I'm still working through taking the sane advice of Alan Bamberger, who has some great articles on investing in and selling art - artbusiness.com
The main problem is standing out from the herd, but if you have involving images with emotional content, that is going to capture an investor's interest, assuming you're on a site with enough raw hits.
I'd like to see a grid array on saatchi, as there are so many works, but if you present say 20x25 thumbs on a page a buyer can really sift through to your nice work much more quickly..
Watch this [internet] space!

Review: I certainly agree that it is very difficult to sell art on the net. I started my website several years ago in the hopes of selling my wildlife art but without much success. I have however been getting orders for pet portraits through the internet which I'm quite happy about. I recently came across a site that offers free galleries for artists to sell prints of their work, so I've set up one up at http://waterart.imagekind.com/wildlife thinking that maybe folks would be more willing to buy a print at a lower price than an original. So far I sold only one but I'm still hopeful.
I think art in general is a tough sell, most people just want a nice picture to make their room look prettier, and those who do by art just because it's art would rather buy in a gallery because that's part of the "experience of buying art."

Review: Last year I sold over three hundred paintings from my web site. Don't say it can not be done.

Review: To sell and buy art online is becoming an art in itself. We are finding that placing various pieces of our art on numerous sites that offer "buy and sell art" is giving us greater exposure to more art lovers who buy art. It only makes sense that if people are searching for art, they are looking at many sites, so the more places we can show our artwork, the more chances we have of being found. We have also found that new sites usually offer very competitive pricing and many times will feature us and our art for long periods of time, giving us premier exposure. Sites like www.GoZabo.com, for example have a great catagory list, and we can be searched by City and State.

Review: We sell our paintings on www.artbyus.com and we do well. We sell more online than in galleries. If the artist controls the sales process, he can be more sucessful.

Review: I have a Web site and have found it most useful when trying to show my work to friends or people I happen to meet. It has enabled me to link up with dealers and collectors, although I can't claim to have sold any works directly via my site. I can say that dealers have sold my work thanks to jpegs they've shared with their clients. So I consider my Web site a very important asset.
