Review: Another example is Design London in the UK. A centre for design led innovation, it is a collaboration between Imperial College Business School and the Royal College of Art.

Review: As some small rivers of different geography and constituents come together to bring up the ocean, in the same fashion the different streams of knowledge (Design and Management) will come together to get the ocean of opportunities. I feel this is the need of Management to re-incarnate itself with this ever changing world.

Review: I am currently looking for a similar program in the Boston area. I have a background in Architecture and have now decided to pursue a management degree. Apart from Harvard does anyone know of any other Universities that offer this mix?

Review: Outstanding article that contains alot of facts, figures and alibis from many credible sources (business firms and graduate schools alike). Unfortunately, it seems that the appeal will mostly fall on the management-to-design transition rather thatn vice versa. I've known alot of artist( coming from a career in advertising and being a nepose of a clothing design firm) and it seems that most of them are fairly keen to sticking with their design roots rather than trying to step over and be more qualified as a designer/manager. Most of th time success stories of artists who become business owners are not the product of B/D graduate schools, but rather from their own hard earned life/work experiences. Nonetheless, I'm most keen on trying my hands with this new mutation curriculum. currently, in buenos Aires argentina, which is fairly at the heart of latin american design and culture. Does anyone know of or have heard of a fairly reputable institution offering them? Many thanks

Review: I think its important to understand the context in which innovation prospers! Innovation comes about when a particular need arises and then a particularly creative person finds a new and improved way of approaching the problem and solving it. Now this can be learnt only through experience. A B-school or a D-school course can never be an equal substitute.

Review: Art, Engineering and Business are not the same trades. While it is important for people to have respect and knowledge of all three, it seems like industry and education are trying to push designers to be businesspeople and engineers instead of following artistic paths. Business and engineering, contrary to popular belief, is not the end-all of society and success. I, for one, will be happy when these curriculums stop pushing visual designers (artists) to be something they do not wish to be. Compensate them fairly for doing a job that is, quite simply, very difficult and extremely skilled - and appreciate what these people bring to the table. Not everyne aspires to own a company or sit in front of a screen clicking away all day.

Review: As design and business become too linked we will quickly find the art missing. Let's not lose track of the free thinking that is required. I know this can frustrate the left brains of our product development brain, but narrowing the scope can give some relief even though it will frustrate innovation. I am confident that David Kelly is cognizant of this dilemma and I also assume he is working to be sure that the scope of free thinking and brainstorming remains as unrestrained as possible within the realities of the design/business.
All the best,

Review: Design and management certainly meet at the junction that is the user or the consumer. The effort of both the streams is channeled into getting their desired intentions implemented. But certainly both have their independent targets to be achieved. The combination of M and D targets leads to a spectrum of products/solutions.

Review: Whilst it's great that the business community is starting to see the potential for what design thinking can achieve when utilized at a strategic level, there is a fundamental need to realise that design and innovation are not the same. Design is about optimisation, innovation is about creation. For design to be effective at business innovation level, the core principle of how design thinking is applied needs to be re-defined. The technique versus process debate needs to happen. Designers need to step up to the play and evolve their implementation methods to reflect proposition definition requirements at a business level, as much as business needs to understand design. If we can do this I believe there is a whole new design paradigm just waiting to be realised.

Review: Talking about design in B-schools is already happening at Welingkar Institute of Management Studies--Mumbai. I am a graduate student in the business design program. It aims at creating an MBA grad who does not blindly follow the management principles but uses his creative ability to think out of the box.
