Review: Two years after the article's publication, it now all seems inevitable for this to have occurred. Yet, also two years later, our theories, the science behind innovation, remain undeveloped, problematic, controversial. No one can doubt the impact of the "Innovation Revolution" or its well-hawked successes. But the main ingredient remains, even in the most exacting researches, "magic." Here's to learning more about what we really do and how best to do it!

Review: You've hit the nail with this article. The message if quite clear: Innovate or Perish. A recent book I read might throw even more light on the topic. It's called Eightstorm: 8-Step Brainstorming for Innovative Managers (www.amazon.com) and it's getting popular in Japan. Hmmm, that's interesting, isn't it!

Review: I have just started to tear the cover / cap / protective sealing off this "creative" economy. I can't comment on any of the practices spoken about in the article except for the fact that its just a permutation of various attributes of something called "Common Sense". Top Cops of the world, the Apples, the Googles and the myriad hippy-kewl mojo driven executives of the Tech. industry are definitely the pioneers of this "creative economy"..somehow I don't see them affecting the common man though. The economy should be about redefining the user and not redefining the experience. The experience, although important is something that does not fit in with this acronym driven process economy. I feel that all these batallions of designers should use their creative energies to redefine creativity itself because as I see it now, creativity can be learnt and prescribed..and that's just wrong. I'm going to be in the thick of this one though...

Review: I love the coinage "Creativity Economy." I have believed for a long while that creativity will finally come centre-stage from being a peripheral "cosmetic" activity in businesses. When capital shifts from money to knowledge, it is quite a no-brainer to understand that the enablers are human beings. Trained thinking in making connections that result in innovative ideas must now be taught as techniques in schools. Not in the US alone but in India. Why? Because India has always been a leader and has influenced world thinking through the ages. Therefore we're now going to see the next new wave of "Indiashoring" which will have much more than low-cost associated with offshoring to India. Every discipline and multi-discipline Indiashoring is the next buzz!!

Review: Innovation that is ungrounded leads to a 97% failure rate. You warned in the article that consultants beware. We were aware of this seminal shift of P&G, GE several years ago and thus created a unique innovation model we call Domain Ownership. We create innovation off consumer centric insights that are unmet needs states and filter them back through a qual/quant process that assures commerciablity and very high BASES scores. Landis Strategy & Innovation, here in Palm Beach Gardens Florida (where we hold the innovation sessions-- our clients just love innovation by the beach) is thus storming the consumer products world right now. Wish you hadn't spread the word, BusinessWeek. Now we will have competition.

Review: The originators of the idea of a knowledge economy were simply saying that the basic element of economic value would be ideas rather than stuff. As one overtakes the other then the center of wealth generation (and opportunity) shift. The key operational distinction is that, in a material-based economy labor is central while in an ideas-based economy it isn't. The failure pursuing this centers on the fact that firms look at employees as idea laborers who are qualified through being topped up with 'knowledge' by training. Most knowledge-based products require far too broad a knowledge base to be the product of an individual or even a group with selected expertise. What has emerged is the knowledge eco-system centered on the Internet where large firms "feed" on the ideas of disparate specialities. These then feed their knowledge labor "factories."
