Review: Mr. Schwartz's comments are very interesting and enlightening but they are very badly tempered by his company's current business model. The Internet provides us with a worldwide communications infrastructure that opens the doors to what he is talking about. The problem is that there is no software or data infrastructure for this to operate. In addition, the bulk of today's businesses operate on technology that is anywhere from 20 to 30 years old. What Mr. Schwartz and his colleagues should think about is how we are going to migrate these existing businesses to these new infrastructures. And if you thought Y2K was a problem wait until we tackle this.

Review: The value of Internet is that it permits electronically-intermediated information, knowledge and experience (the IKE factor) at almost zero cost. For the three-fourths of the world emerging from poverty, after proteins, calories and water, access to Internet is the most important basic need because it permits the individual and groups to integrate the IKE factor into their social and economic activities.
