Review: If I could get a case for the new nano I would. Apple has NO inventory for a protective case this far into the release of the new product.

Review: People, just buy a case or cover for your iPod especially if it's new. Why don't people look at the way people use their iPods if they take good care of it, it should last a while so don't just look at Apple as the bad guy. A cover should be something every ipod and future iPod owners buy. That $20 is going to save you a lot in the long run.

Review: I think it is a shame that you pay soooo much for this little nano iPod only for it to have problems. You try to get tech support only to be told that after 90 days you have to pay a fee of $29.99 Apple WILL NOT get another penny from me. I expect a company to stand behind its products 100% I will tell anyone and everyone who asks about the product to stay away from it! Surprised the company is still in business at all. I'm sure this will not make the posting.

Review: Most high-priced digital electronics have screens. I have scratched my cell phone screen a few times. Should I file a class action against T-mobile? I mean, hello? I bought a PDA a while back for $400. I dropped it on cement and it stoped working. We can't file lawsuits agains companies because we aren't taking care of our products properly. If your computer crashes because of a virus from some file you downloaded, are you going to sue the company that made your computer because they should have known the virus was out there? If you're going to dish out the money for the product at least learn how to take care of it first. Buy a case or protective screen.

Review: I'm not sure how this article resurfaced after a year, but I found it linked from MacSurfer on 10/26/06. It's no wonder that it's generating comments again.
Everyone agrees that tort reform (class action lawsuits) needs to happen, but no one agrees on WHAT needs to happen. So everyone suffers but the lawyers. Small wonder, when lawyers in Congress write the laws.

Review: I work for a major electronics retail chain and own 4 ipods of my own. Yes I have seen some issues with scratched screens on the ipods. However no one is mentioning that ANY portable device with a screen on it gets scratched. PDA's, cellphones, and yes other MP3 players. The problem is with the consumer. I've seen the way some of these products looks after people have tossed them in a backpack with other items, or carry them in their pocket. I mean come on people get real. Everyone loves to go after the "big fish" cause they are a known and easy target. How about some personal responsibility for how you treat the product too. My ipod mini 1st gen screen is still like new as is my nano. I don't see the what the trouble is with a protective plastic screen? We use them on other electronics.

Review: Shane, I'm the author of this piece and I just wanted to thank you for you comment and point out that this article was written on Oct. 27, 2005, long before Jason Tomczak's claims about this lawsuit not representing his actual views became publicly known. As you can see, my comments concern him less than a system that allows companies to be legally hassled with lawsuits that generally benefit no one but trial lawyers.
At the time I wrote the article in Oct. of 2005, I did try to contact Tomczak through the lawyers who were representing him. As you point out, Tomczak now claims those lawyers did not then and do not now represent him in this matter. I also have blogged on this here: http://www.businessweek.com/technology/ByteOfTheApple/blog/archives/2006/05/a_lawsuit_withi.html
I have contacted Tomczak's new laywers seeking comment from Tomczak himself on this matter. They have not yet to responded. Nor has Tomczak himself.

Review: Jason Tomczack has an entirely different position than what is stated in this article, see http://www.jasontomczak.com/
If the writers of this magazine actually talked to people before claiming what they think, they would have known what Tom thought.
Oops, that's like, wait, some four letter word, oh yeah, "work."

Review: I've owned my black 4GB iPod Nano for a little over three months now. Within the first four days the screen was significantly scratched. To add insult to injury, when I went to the Apple store I noted they sell the protective film that you usually peel off of new electronic components. Apple selling these "screen protectors" in their retail outlet is tantamount to admitting there is a problem with scratching.
I don't know about you, but I expect more from a product that I've spent $300-400 for. Especially if I can buy a comparable product from another company at a significantly lower cost.
Sorry Apple. You've lost another customer. My first foray into owning an Apple device will be my last.
