Review: sony mp3 players itself have the touch of creativity, not some bare device selling on name. May be the name make it fell behind the rivel but not the technologies. i belive the R&D guys right now it mixing something more flevourish to grab back the spotlight and make the walkman up and running dude

Review: Aaron, dude, Sony support ms' formats, but they use their own atrac3 format, AND THEIR OWN STORE called Sony Connect.
Sony's Connect is awful, and that's why Sony doesn't sell "network walkmans". Apple wins because it seems to be the only company involved that can walk (hardware) and chew gum (software) at the same time.
Sony is pretty much dead in consumer electronics, a has-been. Samsung is really Sony 2.0. Every teenager remembers their first Ipod and cellphone now, not their first walkman.
And, um, yeah, if they just added a hard drive to the PSP, that would do it for Sony portable video. They aren't going to sell enough network walkmans outside of Japan to worry about video support.

Review: Two things that should be factored in - the iTunes conversion pain - make downloading songs that the user has already paid for free - no skin off Sony/BMG. Finally, abandon ATRAC3 and either make the memory stick open or use SD which comes in much larger sizes for less money. Video is huge - no one wants to encode to a memory stick for the PSP, no one.

Review: Microsoft hasn't done Sony or any of the other MP3 player manufacturers with its Zune player. Microsoft is abandoning its own DRM model -- PlaysForSure -- for a completely incompatible one. Splintering the DRM is Microsoft's attempt at out-Apple-ing Apple by creating a closed hardware/DRM combination. Haven't they learned about anti-competitive behavior yet? Unfortunately, this has left their PlaysForSure licencees, like Sony, developing MP3 players for a DRM standard that has been cracked multiple times. If Sony really wants to compete, they need to scrap Microsoft's DRM (like Microsoft themselves have) and make a better iTunes. Apple leads the market not because the iPod is a better MP3 player, but rather its iTunes software makes downloading, ripping, and playing songs much easier than anyone else's solution.

Review: That's funny. Sony was once the king of the hill, than or now people are still bashing the king.
Now it seem peoples have more excuse than ever to bash another Japanese company. Ever heard of the
Walkman phone? It's the hottest MP3 phone out in the market. To say the E-Book is a failure simply
because its a Sony product is moronic. These same morons said the same thing about the PlayStation 1 and 2
now it killing them to see Sony being the King of the consoles for the third time.

Review: How did Sony, a once-great disruptive innovator, get to this state:
*Bonds downgraded by Fitch;
* Millions of laptop batteries recalled;
* Walkman failed to crack Apple's dominant mp3-player slot;
* PS-3 game console delayed and has lost its premium pricing;
* Gross profit barely moved in five years.
Largely, Sony did the right things that successful companies must do: it released better products and it did not compete against its customers for example with buck-a-song downloads that threatened Sony Music's customer base of record stores.
But ignoring a threat does not make it go away. Sony left that disruptive innovation to a music-industry outsider: Apple and its iTunes service.

Review: Sony really seemed to have missed the bus for MP3 players. I think it is better off selling Play Stations and building a family of products around it... maybe the PS2 gameboy with MP3 playback technology. The MP3 player market is really heating up, with Creative lauching its Zen series (a true Value for Money iPod Clone), Microsoft's Zune player.. not to forget Sandisks new Range which is getting Rave reviews.
