Review: The rollout and convergence of broadband on cell phones, laptops and desktops is exciting. I wonder, however, if Congress and state legislatures will be able to adapt existing laws so as not to suffocate fledgling technology. I discuss it over at www.broadbandblog.org

Review: Technologies take their own time to settle. The wireless boom is in its last five years mainly because it is now affordable. The boom, which people thought would take anytime anywhere satellite phone, has failed miserably--not because of technology but because of some poor management practices and wrong pricing. Mitland report published by ITU in 1984 talked about the missing link and in 1994 wireless in the Local Loop (WLL) was the hot issue. However, it failed to take off but mobile took off with flying colors. The reason is not just technology but it is technology at the right price. In India, mobile reached masses not because of government policies but because of some smart and innovative marketing and bending some of the rules set out by government. The analyst should have also looked into this aspect of what's happening in the global village.
