Review: Mc and Sym have been ok for me over the last decade on MS Windows systems. Security is the MOST important flaw in your computer today. If MS can really stop being the producer of new code flaws and begin to Let us know how to better secure our systems, then more power to them. DCB

Review: I was getting nasty pop up ads for WinFixer and WinAntiSpyware and the likes. I was fed up and on the verge of purchasing a Symantec product to do away with all my problems. The I remembered that there are free anti-spyware programs available on download.com! Duh! Glad I put my marketing hat on and realized that Symantec would only charge $70 for the software because of its brand strength. Not because it necessarily works better than free software! My computer is working great again and no annoying ActiveX popups. Thanks to people other than Symantec an McAfee.

Review: I had Symantec Anti Virus and Firewall. I tried AVG but was too confusing to use and it messed up my computer. Trend Micro, what MSN has installed for email, is pure garbage. I am glad that I found Avast Anti Virus and Zone Lab Firewall. My computer now runs so great with no headaches that Symantec gives when I had problems. You can't get hold of them when you need them and then you have to pay by the minute for their support. and then it is a run around to try figuring out the direction to remove a virus that did get into my computer. Trend Micro has the same format as Symantec with their directions. Avast does everything with a click of the mouse. When I first ran Avast, I still had Symantec installed and Avast found 4 viruses in my computer. Those 4 viruses were in the Symantec (Norton) Anti Virus. When I saw that, it told me the reason why I had problems with my computer. An Anti Virus with 4 viruses in it, I have no use for.

Review: Symantec and McAfee are both examples of companies which tend to get too big for their boots. I used both and they're horrible.AVG is so much better.MS fixing their security is a fantastic business move which should wake these companies to have better products and service or be doomed.MS is coming,it's bigger, better and more Secure.Way to go MS

Review: I also don't feel sorry for Symantec. However I have a soft spot for Mcafee since I have been using them for home use for a number of years. Symantec support is attrocious. You can't even get them when you call and the Web site is not the easiest to navigate.

Review: Symantec's customer service is indeed terrible. I have written them any number of times only to get no response. Products are buggy and they often just stop working. And try upgrading. We had a whole system bomb. I finally found some PR names on their Web site (cecilia_daclan@symantec.com) and sent notes but to no avail. I've given up on the company. TrendMicro or AVG is the way to go.

Review: I refuse to support Microsoft any longer, and have been running my PC on Novell's Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop, and my daughter's on Ubuntu. I haven't looked back. Why would anyone eat fast-food when they can get surf-and-turf for half the price? To heck with Microsoft and its shoddy, shady mess of an OS. As for McAfee and Symantec, that's the risk you take when your bread is buttered by a closed-source software company.

Review: McAfee immediately fixes/patches their software? Are you kidding me? I used McAfee Internet Security for years until they pushed an upgrade in August. Suddenly, VirusScan was randomly scanning all the time, it would get stuck scanning and eat 100% CPU. I had to disable the McAfee's System Guard utility just so my PC was usable. That was the best part. It conflicted with itself! Tons of complaints on the Web and yet they didn't fix it. After a month I got tired of waiting for a McAfee fix and switched to OneCare.

Review: Rather than whining, McAfee and Symantec should concentrate on improving the quality of their products. Trend Micro already has an antivirus program for Vista, so it clearly can be done.

Review: Symantec, McAfee, Adobe, Intuit, and every other company has no right to complain about how Microsoft abuses their monopoly in the operating system and office software space if they haven't made every one of their applications available on Mac or Linux. The fact these companies don't offer all their software on other operating systems only hastens their own demise by worsening the lock-in on Microsoft products. Some of these companies throw a few apps on Mac but then leave key components out. If they do have a Linux app they have left it seriously lacking in comparison to their Windows product. These companies are just as much at fault for their own demise. Allow for a full featured alternative and, heck, people might even use it.
