Review: It depends on how they are sealed, I would often buy in the 70's and 80's Soda Pop on cheap, expecially hard to get brands when out of town, sometimes I would still have some 4 to 10 years later(New Coke was removed from market to me it tasted like a pepsi without all the sugar) the newer cans are thinner and taste off within a year of purchase to me! P.S. in 2006 I was going thru an old box stored away and found some cans of 1984 Campbell's Soup....IT WAS GOOD Mmm...mmm....

Review: I believe the sell by or expiration dates on food products are a huge boon to the food industry. Many people I know throw food out when it reaches the labeled date and buy new product, thereby giving untold revenue to the venders. Some of these products, if properly stored, are safe, tasty and nutritious beyond the labeled date.

Review: "I ate a box of Rice-A-Roni in 2002 (I had never had it before) and upon examining the box I found that it was dated 1984! " OMG you ate the last known package of Rice-a-Roni in existence!!!!!!! I have a box of Mrs. Pauls frozen fish sticks in my freezer which is at LEAST 20 years old! Can't decide if I should savor this rare delicacy or sell it on Ebay!

Review: I work for a grocery store, and often I come across people who actively seek out expired products to get a discount. Dates really are inexact guidelines, and for some nonperishable products, the date means close to nothing. As one example, I ate a box of Rice-A-Roni in 2002 (I had never had it before) and upon examining the box I found that it was dated 1984! I couldn't tell any difference between that package and the ones I stocked last week. Some stores in my region, called box stores, base their entire business on outdated and damaged products at discount price. Of course, I do not recommend outdated milk, meat or produce.

Review: You are forgetting the most important reason for expiration dates on food packaging, why do I want to purchase food with my hard earned money on to have it spoil befor I use it or use all of it?

Review: Agreed that fresh local produce is the best. In California we're fortunate to have fresh produce available... cherries, garlic, bell peppers. The best!

Review: Interesting... I have gotten sick many many times in the past from deli meats. The one place I know that sells food past its expiration dates is Cub Foods.
