Review: Hey Ren - I lived in Minot for seven years. It's a quaint town of very nice people with little room for entrepaneurs. Be honest - CA cannot be painted with a broad brush. Many towns are very similar to Minot, many towns have lots of blue sky and beautiful beaches and if you accept that it takes awhile to drive to work (in my case 15 miles, 40 minutes) and just spend the time listening to good music or radio, it's not half bad. The opportunity for employment in CA is what you want it to be if you're qualified and willing to work. I remember several things about Minot: In the winter, you have to warm your car up for longer than it takes to drive where you're going, the wind never stops blowing, 0 degree weather is a big relief in January, and that when the sun goes down, the North Dakota state bird (mosquito) will take 5 pounds off you in 10 minutes. You won't have to worry about me coming back and driving up housing prices. Yah, you betcha!

Review: I am so disappointed in this article! Stop advertising small towns to CA! Hasn't anyone figured out that the CO natives (such as myself) & Montana natives are leaving their beloved states because CA moved in? Did anyone compare the price (not to mention the crime levels)of housing in CO & MT before the Californian's moved there vs. now? Minot, ND will no longer be the city with the most affordable housing that it is today if it is marketed to CA! Most people don't even know there is a state called North Dakota and those of us who escaped from the trappings of cities over taken by the CA mindset and greedy $$ they bring with would like to keep it that way. For any of you in CA contemplating moving to Minot, ND...they failed to mention that our winters are longer than our summers and that the average temp w/ windchill has is a negative sign in front of it. So bask in your sun and play in your surf and stay out of Minot, ND.

Review: Calif. may have Mother Nature barely grasping on its side with one hand, but the other hand is holding smog, overcrowding, ridiculous crime rates, and a society on a downward spiral! I'm a CA native and moved to CO years back. When I attempted to move back to CA I quickly realized why I left--the people are rude and pretentious, you spend more time in your vehicle in traffic then you do with your family, you can't see a star in the sky unless it rains to clear the pollution a little, then you go to the beach to step on someone's beer bottle or hype needle! But the best about living in CA is the beautiful pretty pink sky (oh, wait that's pollution)! Actually, it is making $40,000 a year as a college graduate ranked in the top 5% of her class, but having to spend nearly 50% of your net income to pay for your $1300 low-grade apt. that is the size of a cardboard box! Oh, my sweet Calif., sad to say, she's so not worth it anymore and sweet wore off to a bitter taste! Go Hollywood!

Review: I recall the 1975 inflationary
takeoff. What goes up must come down. It's a 10-year cycle. The peak and the valley. Check it out. Who Was president in 1975?

Review: Everything is relative, the home prices are lower where income is lower. California is actually one of the best places to live, weather, ocean or snow within driving distance, fresh veggies, no bugs!

Review: I agree with the person who lives in Texas and has no income tax there, yet gets wiped by property taxes. Where I live (close to Texas) we have the same dilemm, and the minute the county needs money, property rates go up. But at the same time, last year Ibought a 2,700 square-foot, 3 bed, 3 bath, built in '26 in an historic district, detached garage with original floors, new kitchen, all upgrades for $171,000. Everything, schools, work, shopping, is within 10 minutes. You can find good deals. This house would be almost $1 million in Pasadena, Calif. A hint: this city has a king and a pyramid and a really big freight service.

Review: Hey Looking4ahome,
The reason prices are high in Ft. Walton Beach is beacause it is a RESORT/VACATION area. DUH!! But if you pay attention, there are places to get assistance in buying your first home. In fact, I know of a $50,000 assistance program in Okaloosa countiy for first-time buyers. You just have to pay attention to the market. Sounds like you aren't.

Review: Hey Business Week. Check your maps. Bethesda is in Maryland, not DC. How about posting one of the fantastic homes actually for sale in the District?
