Review: I think the author draws a premature conclusion here, who knows how much these films would have pulled if she hadn' been in them? The American audience today carefully evaluates the films plot concept and genre before they invest their time, and let's face it, historic costume dramas seldom has mass appeal. Having Julia Roberts in a serious drama is far from a guarantee, Closer flopped, and although everybody loves Sandra Bullock she has more flops than flips. In the end it's all about the movie and all things equal - I'd rather see the one with Scarlett.

Review:
Definitely, she is acting too much, and this is dangerous for an actor because of danger of saturation. For those guys that consider Match Point a huge hit ... would be Johansson fans, because as well as Oscar-type movies last year, there was not a lot of demand.
On Ben Affleck, is just a shame what happened to him, specially in a kind person and good actor. I believe the only way to rescue her career in the box office is by doing a movie in collaboration (when there is no unique star), so the profiles of colleagues would help him (when I mean, no unique star, is something like the "The departed" in which three starts share protagonism, something like that).
For Scarlett, just act less and choose carefully. I mean, she does not need money, right?

Review: I havn't seen Black Dahlia, but if Brian DePalma is responsible, I probably won't. He's a sick --- who enjoys making movies about abuse and murder of women. The movie's poor box may have little to do with Scarlett, and more to do with those of us who were turned off to DePalma flicks when Bloodline was out.

Review: See Girl With a pearl Earing. She can act. Dunno if the film made money, but wasn't a bomb was it?

Review: What a disingenuous load of tripe! You casually mention that Woody Allen has cast her in a couple of films, but neglect to mention that the first one, Match Point, was a big hit all around the world and has since done very well on DVD, too. Also, Scoop was released on only 500 screens and has made $10.5 million, a huge improvement on Allen's recent comedies. The success of both films is due in no small part to Scarlett's presence.

Review: I think the problem with Scarlett is simple: she's not a true "star" yet. The public embraces who they embrace, and they haven't embraced her. I don't know **why** the public fell so madly in love with Julia Roberts many moons ago, but they did. Ditto for Reese Witherspoon; and among the guys, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise (until he went crazy), Will Smith. But Johansson has more in common with so-called "stars" like Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Natalie Portman, and Colin Farrell: they were annointed "stars" by the media before they'd ever proven they were a force to be reckoned with. Now I think Jude is a better actor than Brad, but that's not the point: the public has fallen for Brad, and not Jude, and all the Vanity Fair covers in the world aren't going to change that. Scarlett is the female Jude.

Review: I would consider Match Point to be a hit too... at least the DVD demand was very high (from what I could tell by waiting for the rental).
