Review: Consider the fat packages the GM had to pay to discharged workers. I'm not surprised to see the move.

Review: Sell here, make it here. How sad that Honda, Toyota and BMW can make cars here at a good profit but our U.S.-based firms move to low quality, low wage communist China. Maybe we need all new people to run these firms. Try looking at the Honda and Toyota businesses, who leads and how they run 20 to 25 USA-based plants at a profit. Maybe lower pay for top people at our USA-based auto makers would be a starting point. How about giving top managers the same benefits package as the factory workers? This is how Japan became the leaders in autos, motorcycles and machines. They walk the walk with their team top to bottom. Fat boys and girls with no real connection to the product are runnig our auto plants. The transplants are run by people who started on the factory floor and worked their way up.

Review: Why does Chrysler need to go all the way to China to make a bad small car? Perhaps its smartest move is to make something people want to buy. www.chinalawblog.com

Review: Who finds it odd that the so-called foreign companies (Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Mercedes) are shifting a lot of production here (except for a few specialty parts) while "American" car companies are so quick to offshore, even to China. To save a few bucks to maintain executive bonuses Chrysler may even send over high-end machinery to make otherwise IP protected parts just to make something a little cheaper. And these "American" car companies wonder why they are losing so much market share. If I want to buy cars made by Americans, I almost have to buy Japanese or Korean or Mercedes.

Review: Can anyone say "Yugo"? Americans will spend more for a japanese or small european car (the french are supposed to be bringing the Renault and possibly citroen back to the US as high tech diesels). Also, money for one of those cars is money in the hands of the CCP and PLA.

Review: China has undervalued its currency to get a competitive advantage. The U.S. regulations also work against the U.S manufacturers. The Big 3 built a considerable portion of the U.S. infrastructure and the implants inherent their 100+ years of hard work. Wages are only a small portion of the problem. My plant had a $40m loss which would have covered the total wages of hourly and salaried workers. The only way that China will get in the U.S. market is behind someone else's nameplate -- remember the YUGO. This new market is not about cheap cars and body styles IT'S ABOUT DRIVETRAIN AND ALTERNATE FUEL. I don't think GM would want that technology in China where R&D stands for receive and duplicate.
