Sandy miller Aug 11, 2010 11:34 AM GMT I agree that anyone who claims to be an expert in any medium that is so new is misleading you. No one has been able to invest enough time and even if they do, it keeps changing. But, that doesn't mean you rule it out either. Social media is basically word of mouth marketing. That has been around forever. The difference is now there are ways to make it work for you. You need to work with someone who is skilled in all areas of marketing and this can be part of your oveall strategy. You don't throw everything you have been doing away for something that is new but you also don't ignore the new since it can have value.

Paul Matthews Mar 6, 2010 9:15 PM GMT Social media is a platform which can be used as an effective tool for marketing. However as with any tool, the results will vary depending on the skill of the craftsmen. A scalpel, is a useful tool for a surgeon, but if used by an amateur, the results can be fatal. The same applies to social media.

Heather Feb 7, 2010 10:17 PM GMT I think this article makes a good point about what to be wary of.. but surely social neworking is to be embraced? Finally, a non-patronising medium where corproations can actually start listening and responding to their consumers (or potential consumers)and where people can go online and learn honest feedback about a company and make their own decisions based on personal interaction? All power to the consumer
