Judy Martin Oct 29, 2009 2:37 PM GMT Entrepreneurship seems to be the wave of the future American Dream. But the baby steps toward that dream are crucial to help form the foundation for success later on. Kiyaosaki's comments on seeking out the right advisers is paramount.Dan, you are right on target about the importance of social media to build your platform, but I would suggest doing the building before you jump ship to business ownership. I was having a conversation with Jean Chatsky - NBC's financial contributor just last week and she said - until you get the small biz off the ground in this tough economy and it's making money - don't quit your day job.

Bobbie Goheen Oct 28, 2009 8:29 PM GMT I would add a few other pieces to be successful:*Write a business plan*Create monthly milestones*Surround yourself with people who are currently running successful businesses*Create a list of assumptions and get feedback of people who have been through the curve*Evaluate and adjust your assumptions monthly until your business is up and out of the red*Put a price tag on your time and have a trajectory of when you are spending too much time on things which do not affect revenue fast*Build a network of people who are running their business but not doing what you do*Make sure to spend time dreaming this is where all good ideas come from...others will tell you the shower is just as good... Good luck! Have Fun! Follow the plan!!

Rebecca Tann Oct 27, 2009 11:47 PM GMT Taking the leap into entrepreneurship is a major (and brave) move and that should be commended. If you're an entrepreneur that needs an office space in NYC, consider Regus. In fact, Regus is offering business people in Manhattan 2 months of free office space. To learn more and take advantage of this offer call 1-877-REGUS-01. (Rebecca Tann, VP of Marketing for Regus for more information visit www.regus.com/nyc)

Meg Guiseppi Oct 27, 2009 7:17 PM GMT Because there seems to be no such thing as a permanent job anymore, entrepreneurial ventures are very appealing. But being one's own boss is not for everyone, and not for those who can't adjust to the lack of a steady pay check and the unexpected dry periods often followed by floods. The opportunity for some to earn much more than a salaried job can offer and enjoy many rewards is undeniable.Leveraging social media to connect, share, and market is a critical element in making a business work today. As usual, Dan lays out the finer points so well!

Doug Giuliana Oct 27, 2009 7:09 PM GMT Dan, I couldn't agree more. I chased my dream 3 years ago and now own 3 sailing businesses - SailTime Boston, Advantage Yacht Sales, and Black Rock Sailing School. I work harder, but have never been happier and I am in control of my own destiny! I encourage everyone to do the same.
