If Apple cares so much about their foot print why must I go and buy a new IPod each season and throw last seasons out?Look at the Microsoft Zune, they are finally having a new hardware after several years of just software updates. This also goes for the IPhone. this is really where all the waste is going to come from with Apple.

As a green initiative, APPLE should make every effort to locate--and relocate--its successful stores in downtown areas, rather than in malls.Combatting sprawl is one of the most significant ways to promote environmental responsibility. APPLE should not be contributing to the mall culture.

Interesting that Apple have just launched a program to provide £100 discount against new computers when you return an old one for recycling in the UK! Is this Greenwash? Is it a marketing effort parallel to the car scrappage scheme? Shouldn't we be using all these devices for much longer before scrapping particularly when paying for Apple's historically higher build quality reflected in their pricing.Kevan Shaw

Everyone has to do their part. If a person is generating 10 metric tons of carbon waste per year must own two hectares, 4.94 acres, of trees to be carbon neutral and more than two hectares to be carbon negative. Buy forest and be carbon responsible!!!!www.costaricalandforsale.com

It's good to see that Apple is not buying into the Newsweek Greenwash Ratings but is instead trying to do something meaningful

If Apple is really concerned about the environment, why not allow retailers to continue releasing previous versions of os/x so that people with old macs can keep them running? If we want to be green let's do it for not just the new mac users, but, all mac users.

business week needs to improve the reporting standards. The accompanying picture shows: product use - 53%, manufacturing - 38%, transportation - 38%, facilities - 5%, recycling - 1% this totals to more than 100%
