Just wanted to point out the poor research by the journalist. McDonald's has in the past offered red onions (Arch DeLuxe, McLean DeLuxe, etc) and bacon (again Arch DeLuxe, McJordan). Not to mention McDonald's offers bacon on their breakfast menu. These "innovations" just didn't strike the public's fancy. Great job researching!

So this is the guy that ruined the double cheesburger by removing a slice of cheese and making it the mccheap cheese burger?

I would like to know if the meat being used is true Black Angus Certified or if they are using the word Angus just as a marketing term?

I wrote this profile and wanted to call out to a few commenters. McDonald's top chef, Dan Coudreaut, does spend a lot of time with franchisees to get ideas from them. Case in point: the Angus burger. But the idea from Justin Credible (John Duckett) is a good one. I'd bet the chain would find some innovative dishes--for fast food at least--by hosting a cookoff. Mauricio Loria and Squeezebox both urge McDonald's to import products from non-U.S. markets. But I've heard McDonald's execs say over the years that customers just aren't hungry for veggie burgers. Tell me (and McDonald's) what other foods should McDonald's start offering?

It's nice to know that there's SOMEONE in the fast food biz willing to try different things.

McDonald's is an impressive innovation monster! Congratulations to Dan. What I am really suprised is that McDonald's has not developed an Hispanic Relevant product in the US with real Mexican flavor and not a Tex-Mex approach. I can't believe McD's does not bring to the US the great Jalapeno Relish available at McD in Mexico. This tiny effort would make burgers appeal more to the more than 30 MM Mexican or from Mexican origin in the US.

Here's an idea for Chef Dan: how about taking hits in other countries and trying them out here? Not everything will fly in every country, but a veggie burger from India might just work during lent.

Actually Coriander and Cilantro (as far as spices) are not the same. Coriander is a spice from the ground seed of the coriander plant (also known as the cilantro plant), they are from the same plant but most certainly not the same spice nor are they interchangable. FYI.
