This looks to me like a very well-reasoned and well-argued article that takes into account the significant political facts governing Israel. I have no problem in getting a few extra insights into the country and I believe it would be oddly negligent if such facts had been omitted from the story. If Israel as a country can achieve all this without governmental support, one wonders what additional progress could be made if entrepreneurs had its long-term assistance.

Why is it that this needs to be turned into a political discussion about Israel and the Palestinians. Here is an article about individuals in the state of Israel developing technologies that will better everyones existance on Earth. But we get into an argument about the Israeli state. If an Iranian Doctor cured cancer who cares if he Iranian, American or Chinese. Some things should exist outside of politics.

Imad, You are a liar, sir. The "peace" treaty being offered Israel is based on the guaranteed extinction of Israel. Nor is Israel required to withdraw from all territories, as was clearly, unambiguously stated by the framers of resolution 242, which you obliquely refer to.Your position is based solely on unsupportable lies, as can easily be irrefutably proven.

It is strange that Mr. Roben Farzad claims that Israel is â??flanked by neighbors bent on its annihilation.â?? When in reality the entire Arab Middle East has offered Israel a permanent peace treaty if it agrees to abide by international law and withdraw from the occupied territories (http://archives.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/meast/03/28/arab.league/). So far it is the Israelis that are refusing the accept peace. It would be best for Mr. Farzad to check the facts before resorting to tired clichés about Arabs and Israelis.

To Daniel Winston, This is in response to your statement saying, "Look at what the Jews did in 60 years. Look where the Arabs are keeping themselves for those same 60 years." First of all, please refer to them as Palestinians please. Second, are you God or something? Who are you to judge people by whether or not they are technologically advanced or not? Palestinians know how to live from the land. That is true "Sustainability"! Please look at this link and you will see Israel and its overuse of water and its racist control of water: http://www.btselem.org/English/Water/20090322_International_water_day.asp

To Nassim:imagine what if your friends in Gaza grew fish instead of hate, grew olives instead of suicide bombers? When will you see the light? The sun is quite strong in the neighborhood!

To Nassim and others,KIbbutzim and 95% of all other towns, cities and, yes, even settlements' are not built on confiscated land - and that is the real fact with legal and historical evidence to back it. How sad that the Arabs squander their energy on hate rather than building. Look what the Jews did in 60 years. Look where the Arabs are keeping themselves for those same 60 years.

Great article. I'm hoping to get Hemp grown here in East Africa for biomass, food, and some industrial applications. How much is the Israeli cleantech compared to that from say Japan, Europe or the US?
