Jay Feb 20, 2009 1:26 AM GMT talk to the folks like you would on a date,be honest,be yourself, and the rest is eazy.too much BS in speaking has the same effect as it does on a garden, it tends to kill all the good things you were hoping for.

venkat Feb 19, 2009 8:56 AM GMT Gates was earlier presenting to techie crowd who love numbers and nerdy feature lists. Now he is pitching general public hence may be the change.I think author is biased since he is always in public dialogue (read: Journalism) and might not had understood Gate's earlier talks.

Capitalist Feb 18, 2009 8:59 PM GMT Gates was and is brilliant. He is incredibly intelligent when it comes to technology; I think that is a given. But when it comes to business they don't get any smarter. The guy was a visionary when it came to getting computers into every home in the US now he is a visionary for improving the world. The only thing that knocked him down was our anti-free enterprise socialist government which penalized him for success with an anti-trust lawsuit. The guy played by the rules and won, so they had to adjust the rules...Gates is a great example of Capitalism gone right, it isn't the government which is using his money to fund research and world aid, it is him. And I am sure he is doing a much better job of handling the cash than the government ever could...Great article by the way on his speech, sound like it was very engaging and his presentation skills have improved!

Dar Feb 18, 2009 5:14 PM GMT Are you kidding? Brilliant Technologist? Other than the brilliant contract with IBM to retain rights to the OS, name the brilliant technology revolutions from Mr. Gates. (The internet comes to mind; no wait, he said it would never amount to anything...)

Barbara Pluth Feb 18, 2009 12:10 AM GMT Thank you for the great advice. If Bill Gates has an issue with giving presentations then that gives the rest of us hope! I think the information given will help alot of us who give presentations but may try to make it too complicated. I like the simple, straigh forward approach. I will use this information that next time I put together my power point presentation. Thanks, Barbara

Janelle D Nesbit Feb 17, 2009 9:59 PM GMT Great review of the speech. The bit by bit simple break down of the talk, concise examples of the points to be made and humor are very easy take aways to help others who are working on their communication styles and messages. These will help all of us understand why it worked for Bill Gates and how we can apply the same strategies to help make our messages work. Thank you!I plan to share it in my work and use this review before my next talk. Respectfully, Janelle
