Jane M Aug 13, 2009 7:15 PM GMT This Article is great. It is refreshing to have journalists who make everyone aware of what is happening out there. To add to Cynthia's comments. There is a lot of trouble brewing for Ticketmaster China. The recently appointed COO Matt Huxley is trying to leave China. Apparently the Chinese government is doing an investigation into the conduct of a CEO called Ms Shon.

cynthia Aug 5, 2009 10:34 PM GMT This article is brilliant. So well written. If it wasn't for people like Jon (Who wrote this) & Bruce Springsteen- Ticketmaster "Ticketbastard" and Live Nation might have got away with this merger. I have been reading other blogs thatTicketmaster are now also facing legal problems from other artists.Apparently an Italian Composer called Ennio Morricone is suing China Ticketmaster CEO Debbie Shon.Looks like another artist sticking it to the man.CC

Eric Housh Feb 19, 2009 4:20 PM GMT Jon, great article. Consolidation of this much power is never a good thing, especially since live entertainment is the last great bastion of profitability in the music industry. We recently launched the Music Liberation Fund to hopefully provide some sort of counterweight to this merger; an alternative for venues and promoters who want to stay independent of LN and TM. Check it out at musicliberationfund.org.

M. R. Pamidi, Ph. D. Feb 14, 2009 8:07 AM GMT Jon:I couldnâ??t agree with you more. In these days of eBay, PayPal, Google, HP, Sun, and Microsoft, we donâ??t need TicketPimps (you call them TicketBastards) to buy a ticket. I live in Silicon Valleyâ??home of innovation. I should be able to visit the respective website of the Sharks, 49ers, 'A's, Giants, Raidersâ?¦look at their seating plans/layouts and buy the tickets I want. Why do we need pimps to effect this transaction? Plus, they add a â??Convenience Feeâ??. Convenient for whom? I order stuff for more than $25 from Amazon and they charge me no S&H charges. Now, THAT is convenience.I hope the Obama administration kills this merger and hope TicketMaster and Live Nation join to become Dead Nation!

Phil McCracken Feb 13, 2009 4:44 PM GMT The mountains of misinformation continue to pile up. Ticketmaster never "kicks" anyone to TicketsNow. What does happen is that if the event or price class you desire are sold out, a screen pops up giving you several options to choose from, one of which is a link to TicketsNow. If the concert is sold out and you still want tickets - its a choice, nothing more. the fees are too high? complain to the srtist and venue. They are getting half of the fees or more. Springsteen needs to stick to what he does best: Put out radio-friendly pablum to soothe all of his rabid fans.

Janice Feb 12, 2009 9:23 PM GMT The part about Ticketsnow.com is completely true. I've logged on to TM and tried to purchase tix within 1 minute of them going on sale, and they often (if they're big acts) try to kick me over to TicketsNow to buy the premium seats. As if the premium seats had somehow already been bought by "consumers" before they went on sale. I think not. This is a money-making scheme and it's time -- since people have been complaining of TM since the days of Pearl Jam -- for the Feds to do something about this. Obviously, the musicians aren't on board and neither are the fans. This is crooked.
