Nils Hitze Feb 28, 2011 3:35 AM GMT Full Ack and alltough i liked some of the posted talks it don agree in 6K as a price for a Con and the InviteOnlyStuff. Im planning my own Con (the reason was that i again wasn't invited to the DLD nor can i afford paying the 2.5K Euro) that will be uninvited only with Speakers of Choice and not Speakers voted by Popularity. It's called EuphoriaTechnologica and i hope to get it up and running by 2012. Anyway i would prefer ANY BarCamp over a Conference.

The Bil Conference Feb 10, 2010 10:06 AM GMT Sarah,The "BiL Un- Conference" over at the MOLA is about 6 blocks from TED.It officially kicks off on Saturday and is a FREE un-official companion event to TED where some of the TEDsters and speakers show up to give presentations to the rest of us uninvited, cant afford $6K people. Disgruntled Feb 9, 2010 9:03 PM GMT Events like TED are the reason the "common man" will never be inspired to save the world. They're tired of having the like of Bono et al. preach AT them from on high. They've got enough money to fly a lucky hat around the world and pay $6000 for a conference? Let them save the planet, the rest of us are too busy working away trying to keep a roof over our heads.

Russell W Feb 1, 2009 10:07 PM GMT I'm not smart or famous or important enough or whatever to get into TED either. But then, I've never been invited to the White House or a Senate hearing or a board meeting at Apple. Still, I happily watch the videos provided from TED, and am honestly glad that I can get at the content without the schmoozing. Who needs its!? It sounds like you don't think TED attendees are all that and a bag of chips anyway, so why do you care if you can't be in the room with them? Tune it out if you want to, but writing at length about it doesn't seem to accomplish anything either.

Jen Jan 24, 2009 8:58 PM GMT The best conference I was a part of last year was Pop!Tech - similar to TED but here's the great part...I didn't pay a dime and I didn't leave my living room. The people on the invite list and those who paid top dollar attended in person where they could take full advantage of everyone in the room and hallways. But anyone who wanted to watch the simulcast could see all the amazing presentations, submit questions and twitter with attendees. It was amazing - for three days I watched Pop!Tech fed through my 40in flat panel tv, twittered with people there and even blogged about it. I walked away feeling privileged and having a very high respect for that organization and its mission. And I have no doubt that their broadcasting has only helped their ticket sales for 2009. I hope other conferences follow suit.

Megan Jan 8, 2009 12:49 AM GMT Turn sour grapes into sour wine. There are a lot of people who agree with you! People who think that maybe even if you don't have $6,000 or a private invitation that you still might have exciting things to say. Last year some of these people started another conference, an alternative to TED, they started BIL (http://bilconference.com/)BIL was a huge success. (Just look at all the awesome media attention we received-from wired to NPR-- http://bilconference.com/about/media-coverage/ ) Even some of the speakers from TED decided to come down and give talks at BIL (http://www.ted.com/index.php/speakers/aubrey_de_grey.html http://www.ted.com/index.php/speakers/garrett_lisi.html)Why don't you come to BIL this year and give a talk! BIL is Feb 7&8 in Long Beach. (Just like TED!)

How Ridiculous Aug 1, 2008 2:21 AM GMT TED is an amazing idea and you know it full well, you're just jealous that you're nowhere near bright enough to take up the seat of someone who may actually change the world when they hear what these people have to say.

James Apr 24, 2008 11:17 PM GMT If you were so keen to go, why didn't you pay the $6K? It's plenty, that's true - but would we be wrong in assuming your friends and acquaintances pay to attend, like most (non-speaking) participants?
